Most economical way to stay at Poly

I always have to vacation when the prices are the highest since I am a teacher and have to vacation when all the kidos do. Is there any way that I will ever be able to stay at the Poly for less than 500.00? That is approximately the price that I am always quoted when I call Disney Reservations for Christmas or Easter times. Can anyone suggest a way that I could get a better price during those times of the year????

Unfortunately, that is Holiday Season for Disney and with the exception of 2001 Xmas, there have never been discounts for those time periods, with the exception of DC or AAA.

If you are a teacher, do you have a Fall Break or anything like that between the start of school and Xmas, bvesides thanksgiving? Up here in MN we have MEA in Mid October. If you have a fall break, then that is certainly less expensive.

You can always go in the summer as well, but it is a lot hotter. Good luck,.

Hi Ann,

We're in the same boat! Unless we pull the kids out of school (I'm not in favor of that...yet!) We can go in the summer (been there, done that, NOT gonna do it again....at least until we forget the heat and humidity of last August), President's Week in February, or Spring Vacation at Easter. We can't go at the end of the year at Christmas / New Years because work is too busy.

Easter 2003 is not "Holiday" but merely "Peak". GV is $448 including taxes. So that is a LITTLE bit less than $500 / night. And maybe there will be a DC discount that would cover at least most of the taxes!

Good luck and please share if you find a way to save at the Polynesian. Maybe we'll see you there next April!

Hi Ann - My husband & I are both school system employees so we're in the same boat. We don't mind the heat, so we go in June. We got a great package deal this June at the Polynesian through Dreams Unlimited. We paid $490 per night (tax included), but that included 9 days worth of ultimate park hopper passes for 3 adults & 2 children.

In your opinion, is the Poly worth the cost? I have been to Hawaii and love the theme but even in Hawaii, most of the hotels did not cost that much! Please let me know if you think it is worth the price. Thanks!

Hi Ann - Is the Polynesian worth the price? It's definately not cheap, but here are some of the reasons why we thought it was worth the extra $:

* Monorail access to the Magic Kingdom & Epcot. We never had to wait more than 10 minutes to board a monorail & they were rarely crowded - usually sitting room for all 8 of us. We had 2 in strollers & you don't have to fold the strollers up like you do when taking a bus. We didn't feel we wasted to much time with transportation when we would go back for an afternoon nap.

* Great view of the night water float pagent & MK fireworks from the Poly beach.

* Beautiful beach area with plenty of lounge chairs, hammocks, & shade.

* Boat access to MK - this was very relaxing.

* Rooms were a little larger than at the POR, which gave our kids a little more room to play.

* Very well themed.

All that being said, I am a budget minded person. Of all the things I listed above, the primary reason why I would return to the Polynesian over one of the moderately priced resorts is the transportation. If I were not traveling with young children, that would definately not be as big of an issue. We loved the Polynesian, but also loved POR. So, I guess it depends on the individual needs of your group. No matter where you stay, I'm sure you'll have a blast.

if I were you I would invest in an Annual Pass (AP) which would #1 give you access to the 4 theme parks and #2 give you a pretty good discount on WDW resorts, esp deluxes! And next year go back before your AP expires so now you are getting two trips or more in one year with AP discount on your resort!

As donnamerry suggested an AP will often get you great discounts. Discounts are often available starting Jan. 1. You could stay somewhere cheaper for the first few days of your trip (assuming you're going for a week or so...it's a long way from MI) and check in on the morning of the 1st. There were AP rates available this summer, too, so that might work for you, too. Or do two trips with the AP! We really like January at WDW.

If I were you I would try after Jan. 1 (by a few days), and that will all depend on when you go back to school. I know some schools start back around Jan. 7. or what ever that week is try it then. As far as Presidents week...no, one of the most crowded times, Columbus day also crowded.

I have also heard but have not been the first weeks of June. People tend to plan summer vacations for summer but not right away so it could be okay if you go right after schools out.


Good Luck, I know when I plan a Disney vacation I do it when the kids are in school to better my odds and to save $$$.

As donnamerry suggested an AP will give you some good discounts. Also, I see you are from Michigan. I don't know when your school season starts but if you are able to go sometime during the last week of Aug. into the first week of Sept., you will be able to get very good prices. We did that last year, left for home a day or 2 before Labor Day, so my grandchildren could get back in time for the first day of school. We were able to stay at the BC for about half of the regular price, with AP rate, and the crowds are non-existent. Hope you get to go to the Poly, we love it there
