I am just now closing my first DVC and already looking to add on. I've seen where some UY for sold out resorts are harder to come by. Which ones are harder get?

What ever YU you have now will be the same for your add-ons...I didn't know that when I purchased. Unless you do resale.

I know the UY stays the same, but since I have to wait for add on points for my UY.....I was wondering which ones have a longer wait.

OK- as long as you know.;)
I have Feb yu and did an add on at BWV -it took 2 months to get a small contract w/Disney.

I purchased a small resale at BWV (60 pts) with an april uy. I've been perusing the listings for an addon, but have only seen two with my uy and both were more points than I want to buy. I never thought to survey the uy before I bought resale. Oh well, life is a learning experience.

Since you are now a member, it might actually be more cost effective for you to do an add-on through Disney.

I agree that it is makes a lot of sense to buy directly from Disney when you want add on points, especially when you want the same resort and you want a specific number of points. I just added on 170 points to OKW and they came with 15 year extension. If I had tried to buy resale at around $75 I would have been restricted to whatever number of points were available and they wouldn't have had the extension. (I know there's been a lot of discussion on the extension, but it works for me, actually my grandkids).

At a resale of $75, plus the extension brings it up to $90, Disney pays for closing which probably equals about $2. point. I also get all 170 points for '07, so they're worth at least $4. each, which brings me to $96. Why hassle with resale....

In theory points should be distributed pretty much evenly among the 8 Use Year months. Any perceived difficulty in obtaining one UY over another is merely dependent upon external factors like how many people happen to be selling at the time and how many others are looking to purchase the same Use years.

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking about that. It'll save the hassle of rofr and since there are no closing costs for add ons it probably won't cost me that much more.

It will also be tons easier to use your points at the 7-month mark (assuming you buy into a different resort). I had two contracts at two resorts bought on the resale market and they were a pain to use together at the 7 month mark. I would have to book in whole days with separate confirmations and connect the reservations. With an add-on through Disney all the points are treated the same at the 7 month mark so you can use 3 points from one resort and 7 points from another to pay for a day in a studio.

When looking at the resales, it doesn't seem like March UY comes up very much. I am assuming all months have the same amount of points. I wonder how the new banking rules will impact which UY's the most?

The new banking rules came out just as I offered on a membership. I have 2 or 3 times each year that I like to go. I have an August UY. Only time I like to go that I not covered under the new rule is May, but we always fly, so I have my flight ressies before then anyway. We will see how it goes. I just didn't know if there were some UY more popular than others. I have read that some folks had to wait longer for some months over others. I will probably add-on through Disney and am trying to plan a little.
