DH and I are wanting to try out some new places on our upcoming trip. He's been to Africa a couple of times and has talked about wanting to try out some of the African food at Disney World. Of all the African restaurants, which is the most authentic? We'll be paying out of pocket, so I don't want to pay for something that's pretty much the same thing I could get anywhere else here in the states. Please help!! :flower3:

I would not call any Disney restaurants 'authentic'. That does not mean they are bad, but they are not authentic. Some places are quite delicious though. Everything is 'dumbed down' a bit to appeal to American taste buds.

Jiko, Boma, Tusker House, and Sanaa (to some extent), are the African-inspired restaurants.

I have been to Jiko, Boma, and Sanaa and enjoyed them all. It's definitely mostly unusual fare that is hard to find other places. I just would not want your husband to expect authentic African food. He can, however, expect good African-INSPIRED food.

If I had to rank them, I would put Jiko and Sanaa at the top in a tie and Boma a few notches down from them.

I agree, nothing at WDW is authentic, but I'd have to say that Boma comes closer. Sanaa is more Indian flavored, Jiko is more generic (although the appetizers are more interesting than the entrees). Tusker House doesn't have near the selection that Boma has.

I'm certainly not trying to down what the previous posters have said, seeing how I thought the same thing at one time.
However, upon reading from someone here on the boards who had lived in South Africa, he thought the food at BOMA's to be dead on. He did say there was just one dish missing that should have been a common known dish and was dissappointed it wasn't there. :confused3 This poster went into full detail about each dish and how it was well executed, etc., etc.
I don't know if he had eatin at any of the other restaurants or not, BOMA's was the only one he mentioned to being authentic.

Honestly, the only way you'll know is to try for yourself and the restaurants mentioned here, including BOMA's. Besides, the atmosphere alone is worth going to Sanaa's and BOMA's. I don't care for Jiko's decor, at all.
