Hello Everyone ....... With all of the rain that they had at FW in May and also the first of June as everyone has seen from TCD's pictures there was 'alot' of standing water at the Fort! With the water problem comes 'MOSQUITOES'! We have been travelling to FW since the mid to late 70's and the mosquitoes on this trip (June 6th - 12th) without a doubt were the worst we have ever experienced! I know the folks at FW are working on the problem but I believe they might have started a little too late to help this situation right away! So, if you are heading to FW please pack some extra mosquito spray and maybe something to help control them around your campsite! I hope you won't need it but just in case you do it would be nice to have! We still had a 'Great' time during our stay at the Fort even with the mosquitoes!

There were groups of these guys all over but I think they were behind the 8 ball hopefully they will catch up now that the rain has slacked off

Cant be worse then here in Jacksonville where im at!!!!! They are the size of bats and a lot of them, oh yes we have bats too. :woohoo:

I agree, the mosquitoes were terrible! We came back with bites all over us. We used spay but sometimes it must have worn off. They were really bad right at dusk.

Bring that bug repellent if your leaving soon!

This picture reminds me of Summer Youth Camp!

I agree. The mosquitos were awful while we were there June 4-11. The guys with the fogger packs came through the horse trail behind 2800 loop early in the morning on our last day there.

We kept our citronella candles burning on the porch and lived with bugspray on us, but they were all through our cabin. We were constantly killing them.

Even so, swatting bugs at the Fort was much better than swatting them at home ANY day! :hippie:

Wow, I guess we must have timed our trip well, from a mosquito standpoint. We arrived with the rain, on May 17th. For the entire trip, there was standing water between all camp sites. I was completely amazed by what I thought was some impressive mosquito control efforts, since there was never a mosquito to be found through the two weeks of our stay. I guess the pesky critters just hadn't made it through their life cycle yet :sad2:.

DVC does a great job at all the resorts etc. on critter control. When it comes to mosquitos in the summer, sometimes a way of life in florida. The bugs come out at night when it cools off a little. Citronella candles seem to help if your sitting at a table. A little breeze will also keep the bugs away. Nothing like being in the great outdoors.
