A friend sent this to me:

Pass this on to anyone who likes sitting out in the evening or when they're having a cook out. So you don't like those pesky mosquitoes, especially now that they have the potential to carry the West Nile Virus?

Here's a tip Put some water in a white dinner plate and add a couple drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent. Set the dish on your porch, patio, or other outdoor area. Not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the white plate color, but mosquitoes flock to it, and drop dead shortly after drinking the Lemon Fresh Joy/water mixture, and usually within about 10 feet of the plate --it works just super!

May seem trivial, but it may help control mosquitoes around your home, especially in the South and elsewhere where the West Nile virus is reaching epidemic proportions in mosquitoes, birds, and humans.

It's worth a try! Anything to get rid of those things!

I'd like to try it today....but it's raining!

One of the local Twin Cities morning DJ's tried this. Failed miserably.

Maybe it only works on southern squits! ;)

I don't know about keeping them away from you, but have read that people who have recently eaten a banana or are wearing a blue shirt seem to attract them.

It wouldn't matter what colour of clothing I was wearing those little things love me to death. There can be a bunch of us sitting outside and it is me they bite. There is something about me that really attracts them to me.

We turn a fan on low to keep the air moving and use tiki torches with citronella oil.

Someone told me recently to take Garlique pills and they won't bite. I'm going to give it a try, but it has to build up over time. Just bought my package today.

You must have "good blood" tigercat! I had heard that they'll leave you alone if you have any kind of blood disorder & must say that I almost never get bitten. I'm diabetic & usually only get about 3 bites all summer. DH, on the other hand, gets quite a few. Of course, he eats bananas almost every day & has quite a few blue shirts. (His favorite color.)

Me, too, Tigetcat. I think we are just extra sweet!!

me three -- i am a big mosquito target.

Boy am I happy that I'm not the only one. My family keeps teasing me about it. Now I have a thyroid problem but I guess that isn't a blood disorder. I feel like I am in good company now.

My family teased me growing up, that I put out a sign offering free meals to every hungry mosquito. DH and my kids have just as much trouble as I do. I think fair skinned folk get more bites. Just my opinion.

I wish this was true. I have Von Willebrands disease (kind of like a form of hemophilia) and those little buggers eat me alive :(

Well I am blond (and always have been) and light skinned (can't tan just burn) so maybe that's it. The others in my family are blond but they can and do tan.
