Moscow Trip review with pictures

Here is a review of my trip to see the Bolshoi Ballet's version of the Nutcracker (sorry no pictures of me as I hate having my picture taken)

Day 1 took the 13:30 aeroflot flight to Moscow SVO airport got to the hotel at about 10:30 Moscow time (+3 hours)

Hotel Cosmos

Rooms basic but all you need, buffet breakfast included (will always love disney buffets after this one )

The hotel was across the road from the Monument to the Conquerers of space

After the travelling all I did was go to bed and sleep.

Day 2 down to breakfast at a buffet restaurants the kind that you are not exactly sure what you are eating but eat it anyway (didn't take any pictures of food)
Despite being scared brought myself a 10 ride ticket to the metro and promptly started getting lost and popping round the city taking some pictures of the metro stations

I went to the Izmailovsky Park and took a few pictures

After a long day going round Moscow it was back to the hotel and a bath and bed.

Day 3 part 1 the Ballet

I was picked up at 10:30 to be taken to the Bolshoi theatre got there at 11:30 and forgot it was being renovated so got a shock when it was like this

After 15 minutes (seemed longer) I suddenly remembered seeing something about them performing in the Bolshoi little theatre, quick look in the book and found what I thought was the right theatre but was told it was the next building here is the "little theatre"

I know it was 29th December but in the Russian orthadox church christmas is January 7th

Day 3 part 2

I got out of the ballet at 15:10 and walked round to the Kremlin to have a look
you could only go in between 10 - 1700 so decided to pop back next day but took a couple of pictures of the outside

then went on the metro to get to the old Arbat section of Moscow which has a pedestrian area with artists and shops in it

Did some shopping (I have got my mother and sister sorted out for birthday and christmas 2009 already )
Got back on the metro and got lost again (it was easy done but easy sorted) back to the hotel and back to bed.

Day 4 I knew I had to be back for 16:30 to go back to the airport so I checked out and paid to leave my luggage in the left luggage place at the hotel (90 roubles about £3). Got on the metro and got lost getting to the Kremlin )

The Ivan the terrible Bell tower at one point the tallest building in Russia

The story of the bell known as the Tzar's bell is it was made from the pieces of an older bell but while it was being made there was a fire and they poored cold water breaking part of the bell off so it was never used.

The cannons you can see on this pictures are some of the ones from Napoleon's invasion.
I went into as many of the churches as was possible and then went to the Armoury (sorry no picture)
but you can't take pictures in them and there where enough people in to stop anyone from trying. I was wandering around when I heard a large group of english people being taken round by a tour guide so I followed them and had a good listen naughty I know but never mind. After that it was another trip on the Metro, back to the hotel and the flight home. The last train to Kettering is at 11:15 so I had booked 10 hours at the Yotel, they had room service for drinks but ran out of food so I went to the Starbucks and got something for dinner and breakfast and went to bed, getting home next day at midday.

How was the Ballet? What was the temperature while you were there, do you know?

The temperature was about -3 at the time but it was dry cold so wasn't too bad and I hate being cold. The one thing that really struck was the number of fur coats I saw you just don't see them over here, Peta has not a chance of changing that one. As for the ballet it was wonderful their version of the dance of the indian dolls is just amazing I loved the whole thing from start to finish!!!!!!!!!!!
