I just got my letter from Airmiles!!
WestJet is not offering their cheap redemption for travel for Westjet Gold Mosaik customers effective August 1st 2008.
After that, you can still earn 1 for 15 dollars with the Gold Mosaik card, and you will be able to redeem Airmiles as usual including WestJet, and as a Gold Mosaik ( new name ) customer you get 20% off of the points necessary for flight with partner airlines (Air Canada/WestJet/Northwest airlines and several other.)
So what do you all think?
Good or bad?

They are keeping the $70.00 per year free banking for Bank of Montreal too. I got the same letter.

I will cancel this card and switch back to the no fees 1 airmile for $40.00. I only got the West Jet for the 1400/1600 flights.

As people start to receive the letter, Air Miles will be busy booking flights for folks who want to redeem for West Jet flights before the program with Mosaik ends. You can book for flights through February 2009 as long as you book by July 31, 2008. Unfortunately, there was no availability for my Sept trip. The agent told me that Vegas and Orlando are popular flights, and there is very limited availability remaining from Toronto. Good luck to all trying to redeem for flights!

I just applied for the Gold Amex Aeroplan card, and got 15000 bonus points for signing up. Bye - Bye Mastercard.

I can't imagine this is a no fees card, how much per year is it and do they charge for additional card?

Thanks

Aeroplan flights are really hard to book. I was hoping to using them for a flight to Orlando next spring break, on the first day I could book there were only flights available for 39000 points plus the fees were +$200.

Aeroplan is such a rip.
I have a Platinum Amex card..$499 annual fee..$199 for supplementary cards. Free for supplementary Gold cards.
I get 1.5 miles per $1 spent. I also have Aerogold (CIBC) that feeds my Aeroplan acct. I have over 300,000 miles and EVERY time I look at somewhere to use them, unless it's one year out, I cannot get flights at the minimum mileage!

I know someone that has a TD Gold Card. I 'think' you redeem the points for whatever??? They booked return flts to Italy this past Monday for this coming Sept. NO problem. Travelling-Zoom-big seats. So why do I have the above cards?:confused3

Not much of a loss as far as I am concerned. I never understood how paying 1600 Airmiles ...PLUS $150-200 for the taxes was a deal anyhow, when I can fly out of BUF for $150-200 rt and save the 1600 Airmiles :confused3 :confused3

My same thoughts! I used my airmiles for Disney Tickets instead....

Last year I did a calculation on points needed VS. the annual fees for holding the cards.

My assessment....what I would pay in fees would be the same cost as paying for a flight. Spread over the course of the couple of years it would take to accumulate enough miles/points for a free flight. So, don't bother with a card that charges an annual fee.

I'm choked! DW and I are right in between two free flights (4500 points). I've been using the m/c like crazy for my work expenses (and being reimbursed :thumbsup2 ) but now it almost seems useless! We were planning on flying down in December 2009 on airmiles...guess that isn't going to happen how. JERKS!:furious:

I never really got in the Airmiles thing until.....

Last year I used my miles(had been collecting for 12 years) for WDW passes. Since I caught on to that little gem I've saved enough miles, in 1 year, for another adult pass. All of the miles saved just from groceries, which I had to buy anyway.

for the West cost it was worth it
because it 5400 airmiles reg
or $900 for a westjet flight

The fee is the same as my Gold BMO Westjet card with the optional $29 insurance and 2 free additional cards. I don't like areoplan and AirCanada in general, but I hate paying $750 for a flight even more. I checked aeroplan for my dates next year and my trip to Palm Springs/LA/Vegas in Nov and they had many options at 25000pts level. I can use my aeroplan card at Costco were I spend 20K/year which = 1 free flight. I'll still use my no fee airmiles Amex at Safeway and use those pts for Disney tickets and such.

I don't understand why you could not still fly down? There is going to be lower miles/flight for Gold MC holders and more carriers - so more availability so I am not sure what the issue is? Personally, the biggest issue I have had is actually being able to get a flight I wanted using airmiles. And as others have mentioned, the passes using airmiles are a better bargain anyway because you still have to pay the tax - approx $150pp when you book. In any case, hopefully something will work out for you!

And how does flying out of BUF help those in Winnipeg or Saskatoon?

That's great for those in Southern Ontario. Not so much for those out West. I just paid 5600 AM and $850 for 4 flights on Westjet. You could not get a flight for 4 people from Winnipeg to Orlando for $850.

It doesn't have to be plane tickets OR passes. I get enough Air Miles for 4 flights, 2 adult 5 day Park passes, 1 child 5 day park pass, 3 Universal passes plus some towards our resorts. And that is just collecting a for 18 months.

for me to fly out of Edmonton now with the 20% off airmiles for the 4 of us it will be 17280
where out trip in dec I booked was only 5400 for the 4 of us (HUGE difference)
the flight cost on west jet for that same time was $4287
so we used 5400 airmiles and cost $806 for the taxes thats a big savings infact the savings paid for the 9 nights at the AKL our park hoppers and the meal plan. that came to $3033 so with airmiles we paid for our whole trip for what just air would have been

we should all call in and cancel our mastercards.

But I like getting 1 AM = $15. I can use them for the resorts, US passes, car rental. Why would you want to cancel?
