Ginger can work--ginger ale, ginger snaps--but you MUST get it in a natural foods market or the natural foods section of your store. Ginger items in the regular stores are made with artificial ginger.
I also used sea sickness bands.
I suffered 5 months so it was all about management and avoiding things that would set it off. So be very careful of "smelly" areas on your trip--what may smell good to you, could send your DD to the bathroom. Have her review where you plan on eating and see if anything could be a potential problem and perhaps try to make different arrangements.
ETA: I tried the anti-nausea pills and acupuncture therapy---the anti-nasuea pills worked for 1 day and then I started losing those...and the acupuncture--worked for a couple of days--then I started getting sick immediately after each session and my condition no longer improved after that point.
