My family and I will be at the Magic Kingdom on April 7 when Touring Plans predicts a crowd level of 7. We anticipate all Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Fast Passes to be gone by the time we can make reservations. We are thinking of using the morning EMH to ride Mine Train but don't want to get there at rope drop. If we are in line by 8:30a, how long should I expect the wait to be. Trying to plan out the rest of the morning and need to know if we will be stuck on Mine Train until 10a. It would be ideal if the wait was 30 minutes or so.

IMO, unless you are at the park half an hour or so before the EMH starts, you lose any advantage of the EMH. SDMT is the ride that a vast majority of guests are headed to and the line builds quickly. I don’t believe there’s any way you’re going to see that short a wait time halfway through EMH. Add to that, it’s usually more crowded at an emh park the entire day.

That said, if you’re staying on site, your window opens 60 days in advance. Chances are good you’ll be able to get fp’s for SDMT. If you don’t get one, keep checking. People drop them all the time.

Agreed w/ @cakebaker you really need to be there right at the start to expect a low wait time for 7D. Keep in mind not all of MK is open during EMH to funnel people to other rides. If you don't want a long wait then I'd suggest riding right before park close

Where can you find a list of rides that are open during EMH?

I didn't have a problem booking a FP for 22 people, 53 days out, the week between Christmas and New Years. I think you'll be OK to get a fastpass if you hit your 60 day window. If you are NOT staying at a Disney resort (and that's why you think there won't be any fastpasses left?) you cannot use the EMH.

If you don't want to get there prior to emh rope drop then you might just want to skip it. I'd anticipate a 45-60 min wait or maybe longer for 7dmt. It won't be under 30 min

22 people! Thats a tour group!

We were there a couple weeks ago (MLK week). We went to Tomorrowland first, then made our way around. The wait at 8:20-8:30 was posted 100 minutes. We didn't plan on riding so not sure if it was actually that long or not. We went to Pooh, and it was posted 35 and we waited about 25.

The last time we were at WDW and went to EMH at rope drope, we chose not to run over to 7DMT at rope drope. By the time we walked over to the ride the line had already wrapped around the backside towards the Little Mermaid ride. You should have seen the looks of people as they walked up expecting the ride line to be short since the park had just opened.

As others have stated, the wait will be really long already by 8:30 during EMH. We were just there for 10 days and did MK for 2 morning EMH days. Our first morning we planned to be there really early but we ended up waiting 25 minutes for a bus so by the time we got to MK, it was 7:45am with EMH starting at 8am. We were going to rope drop 7DMT but we knew at that point we'd be in the back of the pack and would get stuck with a really long wait so we bailed and went to Space Mtn first instead. A few days later we rope dropped during EMH and we were able to get there early enough to be at the front of the crowd so we got on with a minimal wait. But I don't think you should have issues getting fastpasses at 60 days out, it just might not be early in the day.
