More Typhoon Lagoon Cabana Questions

We are coming down to WDW next month to do a resort only vacation. They only 'park' we are going to is Typhoon Lagoon. We have decided to get a cabana for the day. I have been scouring the internet for information about them and although I have found some information, I still have some questions.

1. I noticed that there are two primary locations of the cabanas. One on the 'lower left hand side' of the park and the other more towards the middle right (by the wave pool). I noticed that the ones on the lower left were near a designated smoking area!!! My question is: can we request to be in the other area near the wave pool? Has anyone had an experience with requesting a location, or when they get to the park, asking for a particular location.

2. We have reserved the cabana for the whole day. I know (from internet reading) that the cabana will be held until we arrive (even though we are getting there when the park opens). My question is, will they continue to hold it if we take a break and then come back? I know if I tell them we are leaving then we "check out". But if we leave our stuff and don't say anything, I was hoping we could sneak back to the hotel for a couple hours then head back to TL in the later afternoon (the day we are there the park is open until 8). Wanted to know if anyone has had experience with this! Thanks!

We have stayed in cabanas as both locations there. I'm very anti smoke and I don't remember noticing the smoke in the lower section at all. I actually preferred that location because it was quieter and shadier. The cabanas by the wave pool have no shade other than the structure so unless the sun is directly overhead, there was quite a bit of sun inside the cabana.

Each time, the cabana numbers were pre-assigned. Our wrist tags were already done with the party name and cabana number when we arrived to check in.

You should probably close out with your cabana attendant before you leave for your 2 hour break (the cabana attendant will not want to leave an open tab if you are leaving). You will each have a wristband that has your cabana number on it so I don't see why you wouldn't be able to return and re-access your cabana. I wouldn't leave items sitting in there for 2 hours unattended.

You also might want to check to see if you can have the cabana until 8. We have never stayed that late but I know when I rented the pool cabanas at the GF last week, we had to be out at 7pm. "Full day" may not mean until park closes.

Thanks for your detailed response! Good to know that you weren't affected by the smoke, and even better to know that the left hand area is shadier and quieter! I am not sure how late we plan to stay, but I will be sure to ask when we arrive what time they "close up shop" on the cabanas. I would totally cash out if I had a tab going.

How much are the cabanas? How far out can they be reserved? Is there a cap on the number of people using a cabana; they'll be 6 of us.

Max is 6, if you tell them you only have 4 and add 2 people later when you show up they will ding you for $25 a piece. They come with plenty of towels and refillable (for the day only) mugs, an ice box, 6 danasi water bottles, an attendant (some are great , some are MIA) and a lock box. The food menu is posted in the cabana/patio and ordered from the attendant if you like (good to set up an ordering time in advance to avoid the MIA attendant and have to wait for 30-45 minutes) They are cordoned off when you are not there with a chain to avoid people straggling in. Im sure the attendant will want you to settle up if you decide to leave the park (what if it downpours while you are gone and the water park closes for lightening strikes?) I typically tip my attendant $40ish for the day if they bring us lunch (so add that to the budget as I believe with any type of service like this the attendant is working partially for tips)

We have rented the Beachcomber Shack (cabana) and will say you need to do this early as they will book up quickly during the Summer months..sometimes more than a month or two in advance. The rate is around $319 that includes tax, but excludes park ticket. You do have to check-in within a specific time period after park opening. From what I understand they assign them in a shack sequence based upon when you make your reservation/payment. We enjoyed the surf pool area. Close to the surf pool, lazy river and shark reef...plus self serve fountain and other rides/slides. We planned our day on an early entrance day and got there when they opened. Experienced a lot in a very short time. Ordered lunch in advance and it arrived when we wanted it. Had a great set of servers. It definately ensured us a perfect day and allowed members of our group a peace of mind and a place to hand out with great chairs and "arm room" without all the sand.

I called my reservation in a few weeks ago. I wonder what number I am ? How many shacks are there? Did you find the wave pool area really sunny? What time of year were you there? How was your attendant?

The park map shows 12 "B's," and for the area we were in they do align to what we saw. I would say there are 12 Beachcomber Shacks. We were there in June 2012. You will have one person (server) assigned initially, then another person will overlap in the early afternoon. The first person leaves and a third person overlaps with the second to cover the entire day. We ordered our lunch in advance from our first server and he had the lunch right when we wanted it. Our first server did most of the work and the second one did a great job too. The last server really didn't have anything left to do for us.

I have a picture of our cabana area within my Typhoon Lagoon picture link below...we always had shade and were cool. You check-in at the High N Dry Gift and Sundry building #10 on the map. Don't forget to keep your rope gate closed, otherwise other people will wander into the area to make themselves at home. We selected an early morninig entrance day and this allowed us to accomplish a lot of rides/slides with no to minimal wait time. Also, remember you have a cooler with water and ice in addition to the park drink mug that you fill a refill stations. You can place other items in your cooler..the ice held up great.
