I'm really ARGHHHH right now (yes another SIL vent).

Basically her and my brother ordered a Disney Princess scooter for DD after she had asked Santa for one.

Well today the SIL came home early from work as her 11 year brother is ill (and my mum is looking after him as his mum won't ) and when she was up in her room DD wanted to go up and see her (she likes to go in there room and play the wii etc) well they had left the scooter in the box unhidden. I know that maybe they forgot to hide it or cover it but i'm really ticked off, Kyra came downstairs crying asking why it was in there room and that why isn't Santa bringing it on sleigh? Me and my mum tried to tell her that it was just a box that was hiding her Grandads present but sadly DD isn't that stupid. The poor girl was distraught and now thinks Santa doesn't have a sleigh and instead hides presents in her uncle and aunts room.

What made things worse is that the SIL didn't even say sorry to me when i went past her in the hall and my Brother was like oh well

I just put Kyra to bed and she just asked if Santa is real why did Aunty (monster) said that she has seen her suprise :sad2: .....really not sure how i'm going to work around this one, here is hoping tomorrow she has forgotton but trouble is i'm not so sure she would have.

Sorry for the ramblings, I shall be on my way :santa:

Oh dear  That's totally not fair on your poor DD.

Maybe you'll need to take the approach that only Mummy's gifts are on request from Santa and that Aunties/Uncles have to send there's off specially to then go onto his sleigh.

I can't think of any other way to comfort her :confused3 Such a shame! :sad1:

Thing is I tell her all her presents (thes one from me, my parents, brother & SIL) are from Santa. Dug my own hole there :sad2:

It wouldn't of been so bad if she hadn't asked Santa last week to his face that what she wants is Princess scooter.

Everytime i close my eyes i now see Kyra sitting on my parents stairs with her little face crumpled up and tears running down her eyes, which makes me want to cry.

Oh, I dont know, but I am sorry, thats real rubbish, please let us know how you get on!

Aww made me cry reading that!

So sorry that SIL appears to have struck again, people just don't realise how important some things are.

With our two we have put the gifts under the tree and then he comes to collect them over night.
Could you maybe wrap it up and put it under the tree and have Santa collect it tonight? You could tell Kyra that Santa wanted Grandad to check that it was the right scooter and now he has to get the elves to put it together etc?

Just trying to think of something to make it a little better for you :sad2:

It's so hard when everyone has different traditions and it's hard when new family members don't understand how the rest of the family do things. We always just had the stocking presents from father Christmas and everything else came from someone specific (sadly there were more thank you letters to be written that way!)

Don't be too hard on your SIL as she probably just doesn't understand how important it is to you (even if you explain it she won't understand if she's never made a big thing out of Santa herself.)

Thanks for the idea hun:hug:

My mum has suggested that she wraps Grandad's present in the box so on Christmas day she will see that Nanny did have Grandads present in there all along and that it was just a silly old box.

I really want to say something to the SIL but my mum has begged me not to as she doesn't want any tension in the house, but I really think her actions really have taken the buscuit, the fact she didn't even try and hide the fact it was Kyra's suprise angered me the most...she should of just kept her mouth shut.:mad:

I think next year me and DD will be having Christmas at home alone, I can't deal with all this drama again next year.

It really annoys me if the magic is tainted by someone's stupidity. I think your best bet is to go with the idea that adults hide grown up's presents in boxes to fool each other and leave it at that. Good luck.

I usually don't post on this board, but the subject caught my eye.

I'm sorry that the Christms surprise was ruined for your daughter, but I think you're being a little harsh here calling your SIL a "monster" because she forgot to put the gift away. It sounds like she works and her brother is ill and *maybe* it slipped her mind that it was out in the open. How old is Kyra? There are plenty of ways to spin it that Santa is real to a young child. Maybe Santa keeps some gifts at relatives houses because it won't all fit in the sleighand he picks things up along the way. Maybe your SIL heard from Santa that Kyra wanted the gift and bought it for her and Santa is bringing something else. I admit I really don't know the back-story here with your SIL but it just seems that your reaction is over the top. I hope that you are able to smooth things over with your daughter .

I understand that she didn't do it on purpose its her actions afterwards that got me vent up. She laughed at my crying child, i think thats enough to get my back up.

We used to tell my nephew that his stocking was from Santa and the presents under the tree were from his family. This way it made more sense to him, as sometimes he caught glimpses of presents.

I know how upsetting things like this can be, but unfortunately they happen. My goddaugher, Annabelle is 7 and she came home from school the other day and told her mum and I that Santa wasn't real as her friend said he wasn't and she'd heard it from her parents. We bluffed pretty quickly and said 'Well, where does the stocking come from' and this threw her completely and she now thinks that maybe her friends parents cannot afford Christmas this year so that's why they told her that Santa did not exist. Luckily little Annabelle has absolutely no concept of money as her friends parents are incredibly wealthy!

Sorry, I didn't see where you said she laughed at your daughter. Did she laugh in her face?

Aww poor Kyra, she must have been distraught thinking that Santa wouldn't be bringing her scooter. Hopefully you have come up with a good excuse overnight. Wrapping Grandad's pressie in the box sounds a good idea.

We start traditions with the best of intentions and don't realise at the time it can come back to haunt us.

I used to have a awful SIL too but thankfully my bro divorced her:lmao:

Sorry to hear that your SIL has struck again. Hopefully it won't ruin the magic of Christmas for her
