Does anyone else feel as though everytime they think they have budgeted for every possible thing something else comes up?

We are trying to have a "paid in full" trip. We know we will have to charge things on the ship but want to be able to come home and pay it right off. Just getting a little discouraged....

I feel the same way! I love to budget and feel that I am pretty darn good at it too! I have taught many friends how to budget and love books/radio shows/articles/websites about budgeting. But the Disney Cruise/WDW trip is different. I am only about 16 days away and am just at my "paid in full" amount. I wanted it to be more than that at this time in the game but I did add some expensive things in just the past few weeks. It will all work out for the best but I will have to bring along my copy of the budget and a calculator with me to keep things in line. We don't use credit cards (have a debit) so we have to keep an eye on things. I have reworked my budget so many times at this point I don't even know how much it was at the beginning. All I can tell you is to put more money away than you think you may need. I sure am glad that I did. Now we are able to stay at the AKL for 3 nights, Cirque tickets, REAS package on the boat and parasailing! Those were things that were not in my budget that I was able to do! That is because I put more into the budget every month. Good luck

My DH and I are known for having something happen to us where we have to come out of our pockets large when we're on vacation. On our last Disney trip (May 2003) DH pumped diesel into our car by mistake. Now mind you, DH is a Math Professor who grew up in NYC where you never have to pump your own gas so the mistake wasn't as ******** as I first thought after he did it. It cost us $525, that's including the car repairs and car service to and from the Honda Dealer. Yes, the car had to stay overnight so that meant we missed out on touring DTD and seeing The Matrix 2 at AMC which were in my plans. The next day we got our car back and DH took us DTD and we got to see our movie (AMC manager let us see the movie for free because of our little accident).

FINALLY, MY POINT OR MORAL OF THE STORY IF YOU WILL (LOL): Life sometimes throws your curve balls so don't get discouraged. Work everything out as best as you can and they will fall right into place. :)

I know how you feel. I thought I had everything covered then remebered how much we spent last time on mouse ears, refillable mugs and lockers at the water parks. So on with the saving,

If anybody knows the approximate price of the mickey mouse ears hat and could tell me, that would be great. I found out the cost of the lockers, 7$ & 5$ with 2$ returned, and the cost of the mugs, but not the ears.

Amirah,

I have been reading a lot of your comments this last week and I just have to say...god bless you.

Your darlin' must be one of the most charmin' men in America.

I hope he appreciates you...it isn't every woman would forgive the diesel gaffe (I'm reasonably sure it is very difficult to actually find a pump that will allow you to pump diesel into your car at Disney lol)...I think you must just be a pleasure to know if you can be so wonderfully forgiving!

...and in case you're wondering if your magic has had any effect upon the world...I just went and gave my husband a kiss. He looked a little surprised and asked, "What was that for?". I replied, "because even though you remind me a lot of Amirah's significant other at least you didn't pump diesel into the car the last time we were at Disney."

...however, he did vote for Bush in the last election...and if I had my choice I'd have chosen an engine-stopping tankful of diesel in the van. Sigh.

...he is my most favorite person on earth (one of the smartest people you'd ever want to meet, yet sometimes I just get so outta joint with him because he just doesn't sweat the small stuff!)

I, on the other hand, make many mountains out of molehills...hmmmm...maybe I'm the one who needs a reality adjustment! lol

Ozymoe...he still turns red to this day when I bring up the diesel mistake. After reading your post I brought it up to him again. He suggested this time that we take that little memory and throw it the trash can. He said that the garbage truck will take the can with them tomorrow and therefore there will be no more mention of the diesel mistake. LOL! I laughed so hard. The really funny part was when he said, "I wondered why the nozzle didn't slip easily into the car." LOL! He kept pushing until it was somewhat in. LOL! :p

Don't get me wrong, I was mad for the entire night because I didn't get to go DTD. He made it up to me the next day so I'm OK with him. I'm just glad that the diesel didn't tear our car apart.

God bless you too Ozymoe. :)

Oh dear, Amirah,

I didn't mean to embarass him...I thought you and I could just share a smile...actually, if I think back I do some things at that level too!

Ahem, my family still talks about the time I put coconut in lasagna. I know it sounds awful now, but at the time it was just a half cup of leftover dried up coconut that had absolutely no taste whatsoever...and instead of throwing it out I decided on the spur of the moment to add it to the lasagna sauce...just a little extra fiber undetectable by either texture or taste in the lasagna, right? Wrong. Who knew it would make the sauce chewy? The whole family was mystified and I can still see their faces at the table that fateful night as they chewed, looked at me with odd expressions on their faces.

I was a whole minute before my husband swallowed and said, "JoDeen, did you put coconut in this lasagna?"

...I was so embarassed I denied it! I didn't exactly lie, but looked him straight in the eye and said, "don't be silly, what kind of a person would put coconut in lasagna? This is a very special recipe," I continued in an aggrieved tone of voice, "you don't have to like it, but you don't have to make fun of it"

After about 5 more minutes of watching them valiantly chew and chew I got the giggles and had to 'fess up. There was just no way the kids could believe I had actually put coconut in the lasagna!

It has come back to haunt me more than once when one of my darlings brings it up in front of company...usually as we are eating a home-cooked meal I've made. Sigh...you make one teeeeny little mistake...

I did more than smile...I "LOL" while reading your post. I'm just wondering, did you really do it for fiber dietary reasons or did you want to see what the outcome would be? LOL! At least your mistake didn't cost your guys $525.00!!!

The trash was taken away this morning, but guess what...the memory is still in my head. LOL!

Honest to Pete...I just hate to waste anything (hence my haunting of this Budget Board)...and fiber is fiber...or so I used to think! lol

...and DO throw that old diesel memory into the garbage...unless you can remind him of something you did just as embarassing!

Come on Amirah...don't you even have ONE story to tell on yourself? lol

I'm sure that I have an "Extreme Screwup" on file, but I can't think of any at tht moment. Going to ask DH to think of one that I can report. I think that if I had one as bad the diesel thing he would have brought it up to work against me. We'll see what he says tonight. LOL!
