Just a little informal survey here. Who has more than one natural child with a disability in their home? I know there are many families with more than one ASD child in the family. I'm talking about families with more than one child with very different disabilites such as mine. My DS age 20 has Down Syndrome and my DS age 18 has Classic Autism. I know of another family who has a child with Cerebral Palsy and another child with Fragile X.

Anybody? :cool2:

I have twin girls, age 9.
One has classic autism - She attends a special needs program with only 7 students. She has to have OT, speech. She is on meds for anger management and obessive cumplusive.

The other DD has ADHD and a learning disability in math. She is in self contained classroom for math.

I have mild CP and my brother had JRA starting at 12 (now just regular arthritis) and severe asthma starting at a year.

We have 4 children & they all have some sort of disability. Our oldest, 10 is the least involved. He has ADHD, we just have to keep a close eye on his
homework & he's very loud & emotional.
Our second, 10 has Aspergers, seizures & anxiety. He is on an IEP at school, but is very bright & in a gifted & talented program at school.
Our third, 7 has Chiari Malformation & had a tethered cord which was fixed. She probably has ADHD, but have not had her diagnosed yet since no problems with school.
Our fourth, 7 & twin of third is the most involved. He has CP, seizures, severe ADHD, visually impaired, developmentally delayed & a few other labels. He is on an IEP & in an essential skills room & still gets 3 hrs of weekly therapy (privately & at school). He does walk independently, talks somewhat (we can understand about 1/2 of what he says), is starting to learn a little, just very delayed academically & is a delightful boy that charms anyone he meets.

My oldest was an under achiever in school, but very bright. Bombed out of college, I will say no more. Doing ok now.

2nd one has ADD, and FINALLY went for treatment a few weeks ago, he is 22 now. The medication is making a huge difference, and I think his life would have went smoother if he was treated earlier. Long story, but he refused the medication when younger, so we allowed him to make that decision. Hopefully he is on track now.

3rd son has Down Syndrome and Autism. Double whammy, and he is not verbal. He is sweet but a handful, and needs a lot of help.

4th child has juvenile dermatomyositis, a Rheum. disease. The treatments have caused damage to her bones, she has had 5 surgeries on her hips and knees and has spent months at a time in a wheelchair. All this triggered depression and more.

Sometimes I look around and wonder why at least one did not have an easy time of it. And I am not alone as I can see here!

My oldest DS 11 has ADHD and general anxiety disorder, also an unspecified LD. My younger DS9 is HFA. I have ADHD and dyslexia.

My oldest with Down syndrome also has Autistic characteristics. He is also non-verbal, but uses a Dynavox quite nicely. He has had many medical issues, namely scoliosis surgery, open heart surgery, hearing impairment, and other more minor things. We call him our million dollar man.

I am glad to see there are others like me and now I don't feel so alone.

I get sick of people complaining about their "regular" kids and it makes me want to scream sometimes!

Two boys. Oldest has Mild Cerebral Palsy, asthma, and all kinds of allergies. Youngest has Cortical Dypasia, epilepsy, Aspergers, and ADHD. Every day is a new adventure!
