We have been to disney many times. The last 3 times i have been in a scooter and able to transfer on the busses from the scooter to regular seating. This time i will not be able to transfer to regular seating. I have had three different answers to this question from bus drivers . 1- i must transfer to seating 2- i can stay in my scooter 3- i can only stay in my scooter if i rented it from Disney. Anybody know the correct answer. Thanks in advance.:hippie:

My owner's manual states that it is not safe to stay on the ECV on a bus. I think that the Federal rule is that you must transfer to a seat.

And question 3 does not apply since you cannot take a Disney rental out of a Park.

The sign on the bus says, guests using scooters should transfer, not must.
So, it is recommended, not required.
There is no Federal law that requires getting off.
This is the sign on the bus.

A 3 wheeled scooter is more likely to tip over if you are riding on it while on the bus. A 4 wheeled scooter is more stable and will not tip over as easily as a 3 wheeled one. It is safer to get off and transfer to a bus seat, but but, if you can't, I would suggest a 4 wheeled model would be safer on the bus.

And, as Cheshire Figment mentioned, the ECVs that Disney rents are not allowed out of the parks, so would not go on the bus.

just back a couple of weeks from WDW--most bus drivers asked whether I could transfer or not (I always did, and they seemed relieved). However, I believe if I had said "no" they would have let me stay on my three-wheeled scooter and put the seat belt on in addition to the usual scooter restraints.

HOWEVER, having made that mistake once on a busy bus (I didn't want to take up a seat someone else could use) and almost tipping over (if the bus hadn't been full and a big guy next to me kept me from going over) I will never do that again. Although the four-wheel would be more stable I still recommend transferring where you can.

Bus drivers will ask you if you can transfer. I tell them that I can - but it will take a while, and a member of my family must help me. They're OK with it.

I haven't had any issues. If the bus is crowded, I usually stay on the scooter. If it's empty, then I move to a seat.

You are correct that they would put the seat belt on you as well as strapping down the scooter.

If the scooter is unoccupied, they can tie it down differently, strapping higher up and in places that are not possible on an occupied scooter.
