About 2 wks ago, we learned my 75 yr old active dad has prostate cancer. Well today, he went in for a colonoscopy. They found a small growth & removed it. It wasn't anything.

HOWEVER, they found a large growth further up, that they can't remove & it needs to be removed to prevent blockage. They didn't release him; and instead admitted him to the hospital to have a section of his colon removed tomorrow. This was a shock to my parents. My mom is home & crying. My dad's in the hospital. And I live 2 hours away. Luckily, my brother has been doing some work in the area closer to them, & has been sleeping at their house. But my brother is NOT the comforting type.

Please pray for my dad during surgery tomorrow. Mom says he won't have to use a bag -- and they should be able to just remove a section of colon & re-attach. I'm really bad with understanding medical stuff or how things work. So, I'll take her word on this. He won't be able to lift for weeks. And we are praying they don't find anything else OR that it turns out to be colon cancer too.

Also, some what connected, but less important really at this point. My dad owns a charter sportsfishing/ private lobster boat. Its been for sale for 3 yrs. His ONLY thoughts right now are getting the boat ready to get in the water so he can make money this summer AND to sell it. A commercial sized vessel is alot of work for anyone...let alone a 75 yr old man. I pray that he sees that he doesn't HAVE to work so hard...and just tries to sell the boat while its still out of the water. I hate to see him try to do this kind of work while recovery from colon surgery & undergoing prostate cancer treatment. :sad2:

Thank you for any prayers.

Good luck on keeping him from working. He sounds like a man that won't be still much. :)

I hope the surgery goes well tomorrow. Try not to worry, I think he'll be just fine.

Splash, it is so difficult to see a parent dealing with serious health issues. I will be thinking of you and your family. Please keep us updated. :flower3:

My Mom had 2 sections of colon removed on Dec 17th, by January 29 she was able to go back to Florida.

The word Cancer always sends everyone's mind straight to the cliff but that's human. I was freaked but have now seen my Mom get better and it is a shock but they will get through this.

What treatments do they see for your Dad's prostate?

I hope all goes well...Prayers from someone who has been there...:grouphug:

Dad has decided on the radioactive pill for the prostate cancer. Only reason he picked that was because it was faster recovery than chemo....and he wanted to get going on the boat. And now THIS happens which will restrict his working on the boat. I think its a sign that he shouldn't be putting the boat in the water. I haven't spoken to him yet....but I'm sure he's pissed about that.

Thanks for the info about your mom. I hope she's doing well.

:grouphug: for your dad. My mom (she'll be 55 this year) had all but 3 ft of her intestine removed last year.

Your dad should be fine b/c my mom doesn't have a bag and she is eating EVERYTHING.:confused3 :)

Hey, Splash! Many prayers goes out for your dad.

Thoughts and prayers for your dad. He sounds like a heck of a guy. (A lot like my dad, actually, just a little older.) :)

I spoke with my dad. Surgery will be at 2pm tomorrow. Meantime he's bored & hungry.

Thanks for all the prayers & info. :goodvibes

3/27 Update: My mom called to say dad's surgery didn't happen today. I guess the surgeon had an emergency operation late last night & a few others that had to be done before dad today. Surgeon came into dad's room exhausted & plopped himself in the chair & asked dad if he would mind hanging out there another day & they would do surgery tomorrow when dr was rested.

Dad was ALL for that idea. :rotfl: :lmao: So, he's still there & waiting. Its on for 8am Wed instead now.

Thanks for the prayers & thoughts.
