My husband and daughter, who both work fulltime at the parks, came home this afternoon and confirmed that all part-time employees were let go as of today. Don't know exactly how many that is but I'm sure the number will be announced shortly. So sad!

WHAT???? Where's Safari Steve?? Anyone else have more info?

Man oh man, it looks like Disney is bracing for hard times.
I hope Disney can maintain the magic but, it seems like
with the cutting of help, hours and events, it's headed
for the ditch.
I hope, Eisner can pull her out, but they may be bailing
out. SAD! SAD! SAD!

Well I'm a Part Timer and I still have my job...So it can't be ALL Part Timers...

An exerpt from the OS article:
The sharpest reductions will be for Disney's 15,000 part-time employees, some of whom are being told not to report for work at all until further notice.

Consider yourself lucky SwinginM. While these are not labeled official layoffs, they are for all practical purposes layoffs, albeit temporary in nature.

All of MGM is lucky then..no one at my park has suffered anything other than reduced hours...I think it's because part timers out number full timers at MGM ...this is the only park where this is true...

I sincerely hope the report is false with regard to the layoffs. I'd hate to see anyone lose their jobs, even if only for a short while. These are tough times indeed, and hopefully the cutbacks will end with reduced hours. I'm fearful however that if attendance continus to slide that Disney will be forced to let additional people go, which would be a shame in the midst of the kickoff of Walt's 100th celebration. I'm hearing reports that hotel occupancy is so low on property that they're seriously considering closing off sections of the resorts so as to streamline efficiency of operations until things start to pick up again. And many fear that things will get worse before they get better. Lets hope that Disney and the rest of corporate America turns the corner a lot sooner than expected. And lets pray that America prevails in this fierce fight against evil. God bless America.

Anybody think we might see certain parks closed 1 - 2 days/week to save operating costs.??

After all, it was not until about 1976 that Disneyland was OPEN 7 days/week.

The news came out today....

FT Techs in Entertainment are cut to 32 hour work weeks. No OT available.

Entertainment Performers are cut to 30-32 hour work weeks. No OT available unless a show necessity. CS/CR performers will not be on the next schedule to be released on Thursday of next week unless are needed for show necessity.

There is no word on how long this may last.....:-(

I must be extra tired but what are CS/CR performers?

My husband cheered me up today by informing me that Disneyworld would probably do a lot more cutting back if a full fledged war broke out. Too many people have lost their jobs as it is lately and that is most troubling to me right now.

CS=Casual Seasonal (temporary Cast Members)
CR=Casual Regular (part time Cast Members)

FT 32 hour/week max, no OT.
CR- Hours Suspended, no shifts until further notice, no OT.
CT- No Shifts, No OT.

As far as I know, this is the closest thing to a layoff that can happen in regards to hourly cast. This is why no hourlies got layed off earlier this year. Salaried can be layed off, however, because they are not covered by collective bargaining. Lots of my friends are applying for jobs elswhere to hold them over until this subsides. The general feeling is that once people feel safe enough to travel, we'll be back into the swing of things. Hopefully our recovery won't be too dependant on the recovery of the Airline industry. Needless to say that I won't be plying the rivers any time soon.
Kungaloosh...

JimB, I do not think that you will se the actual parks close (except for reduced hours) . BUT, I do think you will see places like Typhoon Lagoon close a day or two so as to give the business to Blizard Beach and I happen to know for a fact that Pleasure Island is going to be closing the Adventurers Club, BET Soundstage, Rock and Roll Beach Club, and possibly (not yet confirmed) the Comedy Wharehouse on Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights.

Another CM mentioned on another board that he'd heard a rumor that Animal Kingdom might be shut down one day a week. Yikes! With attendance appearing to be improving, hopefully such moves won't be necessary. Unless Disney was planning them anyway...
