Sorry, lol, but I have a lot of time on my hands and I do enjoy planning...I’m trying to create as perfect a day as I can on my Tortola excursion.
1) Is JVD primarily for partiers, tourists and drinkers? I see a lot of that in my research, although everyone agrees that White Bay is gorgeous. I’m neither of the first two, definitely the last, lol. I intend to try a Painkiller while I’m here, but my primary goal is to enjoy the beautiful beach and do some swimming. I’d also love to have a tasty, authentic lunch ...

2) Which are your favorite lunch spots on JVD? Soggy? Hendo’s? One Love? I think I read that Sedday just died (RIP), so that may be why its temporarily closed. If I end up taking a private tour for more than 4 hours, I may be able to check out another part of JVD, but that’s up in the air

3) My Cruise is 3/2-3/9, so I’ll be in Tortola on 3/5...I suppose that’s still spring break. I admit I hate crowds anywhere, but 3/5 is a Wednesday - does that matter in terms of how crowded White Bay will be?

I’m considering this company because I LOVE fast boats, I love the feel of the wind in my face...its very expensive, so I’m really not sure, but I love that I can customize a tour (I’d definitely add Smuggler’s Cove)

4) Should I consider beaches on a quieter island, like Virgin Gorda ? Not the Baths - that’s not for me. I’d be happy with beautiful white sand, good swimming, a good local’s place for lunch... I may make a separate thread for Virgin Gorda If enough people suggest this.

Or, I could just stay on Tortola !

Thank you!!!

Considering your question- we usually end up getting our drinks at the Soggy while we are there. And DCL excursions arrive early and don't stay that late due to the channel crossing and having to get everyone back, so not sure if the vibe is different later in the day. I see lots of large catamarans that have "swim in" guests, of course, dcl and other tourists. I don't see any party folks, at that time of day. The vibe there is really low key. It is not all that crowded really. It is one of my favorite places to swim. I think if I private chartered, I would also use my time to swim and snorkel at another location as well.

Thank you! I decided to splurge on a powerboat custom tour because I don't know when I’ll be back, and I want to make this special.

Of course this isn’t set in stone, but I’m thinking of going to JVD/White Bay in the morning/early afternoon and then Smuggler’s Cove afterwards. Possibly Virgin Gorda (Devil’s Bay?) later or in between….I want to get back to the ship with time to spare - this will be more like a 3/4 day than half or full.

I would head to Foxy's for lunch (his son owns One Love). They are known for their beach barbecue (it is fantastic but only for weekend dinner). They offer a menu for lunch though. Conch fritters and chicken roti are what you are looking for to enjoy an authentic lunch.

Unless I end up canceling my current plans, I wont be going to JVD….but, given how I probably will still be going back and forth (because I’ll always be torn), if I DO end up there, this is a great suggestion.

Thank you!
