As you know I'm completely new to itunes. I have been able to get a bunch of songs on to dd's ipod, some I've purchsed & some that I ripped. Naturally I'm not sure how I did it... I ripped 2 Cd's the other night & only 2 songs from each CD has showed up on her ipod. All the songs show up under the name of the CD in the devices section (below her Ipod name)

I can't click & drag any song to the device - like the manual says I can :confused3

I'm beginning to really HATE itunes!

go to the top of the options where the library of your Itunes is. Same side where your daughters IPOD shows up but at the tip top it says library.

You can grab the music from there or go to recently added and grab from there. Im not sure why it wouldn't let you take from the cd directly.

No, I can't grab from there either. I have the music library pulled up - lists all my songs with checkmarks. But I can not drag songs from there into the device. It has a no symbol there.

But who the heck would want to sit & drag 1 song @ a time - there has to be a better way to get the whole album on there @ one time?:confused3

While i'm at it - I might as well ask other questions - right?

How do I get a couple CD's off itunes that were downloaded onto my computer (prior to itunes) I'd like to keep them on my harddrive - but not in intunes 'cause I'll probably never put them on the ipod

Sitting here again trying to fool with getting these 2 cd's on her ipod. Still haven't gotten them on there yet....

One of the cd's shows up under devices - right below the pic of her ipod.

But when I click on her ipod, go to music & go to sync selected songs the CD's aren't listed under artists :confused3

And when I 1st plug in the Ipod it goes to sync it (ot so it says @ the top) but nothing happens - nothing is automatically added to the ipod & it sits there FOREVER churning saying its syncing -do not disconnect

You've ripped the CD's, they're in your library and all check marked? Can you go to cover flow and drag the whole album over?

For as long as I resisted, play lists are the simplest way to get your stuff on there. Make a play list then drag all the music you want over there then sync that with the ipod.

You have to rip the CD's first and add them to your library, you can't just drag them from the CD. CD's are not in the right format so have to be ripped.

if the ipod is hooked up and registering correctly, it should show up in the list on the left along with the other options of library, purchased, etc (it'll just say something like 'ipod' unless you gave it a specific name).

click on your itunes library and find the album you want to move over. Click on the first song, hold down the shift button and then click on the last song (they should be highlighted in blue), then click-hold and drag the set on top of the ipod entry on the right and drop it.

for removing songs from itunes, you should be able to highlight them as above, then choose clear/remove.

Go to the ipod where it shows under devices and see what your sync settings are. If you have it set to sync check marked stuff it might be trying to sync the whole library. Check manually sync.

I have to it sync just selected playlists - but the CD's don't show up there :confused3

looking for coverflow - I know how to get to it on the ipod - but not on itunes...I'm looking....

I got the highlighted part -I don't see where to clear remove - no option on my right click - am I just to hit delete?

YOU have to make the play lists, they aren't made for you.

They are ripped
You said you were trying to bring them in from the CD...

You know I think you may be looking at DD's ipod and not the library. I know it is so confusing, itunes is a pain in the patootie.

Okay, deep breath, how about starting over?
1) Unplug the ipod for now.
2) Eject the CD so there's no confusion.
3) Go to the top of the list on the left, select music. On the top right there are three boxes, if you click each one they will show your music by list/cover flow/combo of both.(Do the CD's show here? If not they weren't ripped.) List might be easiest for now. (you could now plug in the ipod and drag music over but stick with me for a sec.)
4) Go to play lists, right click and select make new, give it a title.
5) Drag all the music you want on the ipod to the play list. You can drag the whole album or just a few songs, make sure they're check marked.
6)Plug in the ipod. Drag your list over and it will sync automatically.

Last question: What type of ipod is it?

luvmyfamily-I have to go for an hour or so but if you haven't got it by then I'll be more then happy to try and help further.

The reason I ask what type of ipod is if it's an itouch I don't think you can drag and drop. I have an iphone and you must make a play list and then go to each tab up top, select what you want on there then hit apply in the bottom right corner. I will go into more detail later if it's and itouch and you need more help.

Thanks Wen - I FINALLY got them on there. I had them ripped -but still had the CD in the player so it showed up under devices.

The songs did not show up under music in the library - but DID show up under recently added - thats where I was baffled.

And when I went to drag the music over to the playlist (which I had already made a while back) the NO sign showed up - BUT it still allowed them to be dragged there once I released it.

so - I have no idea if I'll be able to figure out how to put another CD on - I'll try again before long - when I get brave enough - LOL

THANKS so much! (BTW its a nano)

YAY!!! I was kinda concerned you chucked the computer out the window when you never came back, lol!

You can set up itunes so that when you insert a CD a box will pop up asking if you want to rip it and put it in the itunes library. In itunes: Edit>Preferences and there will be a box where you can select what you want it to do when you insert a CD. Then you won't have to remember how to rip it.
