We have reservations at GC with a theme park view, but concierge was not available for our dates. I've just noticed we can get concierge rooms at PP but with a city view. I've never been to either and can't decide if upgrading to concierge is worth what seems to be downgrading the hotel and view.

I'd greatly appreciate some input. There are six of us staying four nights, five days in two rooms. We're taking DD, SIL, DGD7, and DGD10 as a treat, so we do want it to be nice. Thanks for any thoughts on the subject.

I haven't been to either GCH or PP, but personally from what I've seen in pictures and heard in reports, I'd stay at a normal GCH (even Downtown Disney view) before upgrading to a concierge at PP. Especially since it's a theme-park view at GCH.

But, I'm biased -- when DH and I travel, it's only the two of us, and we'd very rarely take advantage of the extra features conceirge provides. We'd prefer the atmosphere of GCH. :)

The Paradise Pier Hotel is a fine hotel. It is a large two wower hotel build in the 70's or 80's by some other company and Disney took it over in the 90's and Disneyiaez it to some degree. The city view would be on the opposite side of the parks and look out over the parking structure and Anaheim Neighborhoods.
The Grand Califfornian is a hotel designed by the man who did the Wilderness and Animal Kingdom Lodges at WDW and is themed down to the last detail. It is located "in" the new DCA park...it is actually adjacent to but alot of the themepark views are incredibly close to the walkway and over look Grizzly River Rapids. Other Park views will be of the Paradise Pier area which is beautifully lit at night. The GC has a huge beautiful lobby. The Paradise Pier lobby is like a shoebox.
If you can handle your trip without the modest upgrades that concierge brings I would keep my reservation at the GC.

If you do keep your room at GC (and I would if I were you....can I be you just for this one trip? I promise I will be nice to your family. LOL) you might try asking at check in if they have the concierge service availible. Some times people cancel it and then they can add it to your room. I have heard of people adding it at DLH at check in often. Worth a shot. Perhaps tell the CM at check in how disappointed you were to not get concierge service and see what they can do for you.

The view for GC will be breathtaking. I remember being in DCA and dreaming of the day my husband and I would stay in one of those rooms.

Good luck w/ your decision.

Thanks so much for the wonderful details and encouraging comments. I think we'll take your advice and stay with GC. The last time I was at Disney it was DL and nothing else. This should be a real treat.

We stayed at the GC last night--no concierge, no special view--and it was wonderful! The room was really lovely and service was perfect. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat--and I only live 20 miles away!
