More good stuff for Disney Springs - will this now be a must do destination?

For us it will! This finally solves our answer of what to do at night. We don't visit WDW often, so when we go it's for a longer stay. We get tired of closing every night at Epcot (when parks close earlier) and empty hotel bars. With Disney Springs, it seems we now have a lot more options for good dinner and good drinks! The latest..

In my opinion, Disney Springs is a fantastic addition to the WDW resort and really looking forward to it when we come back.

DTD was a must visit every trip at least once and Disney Springs is an improvement so we will be there at least once per trip.

I hadn't been to DTD my last couple of trips, so I'm excited to go to that area again. Even if the buses will be a pain! Good food makes everything better....

We used to love it when Pleasure Island existed. Loved the clubs and night life. We also enjoyed Disney Quest.

We are not foodies, so it will never be a huge draw for us the way that it is currently.

I agree.

The West Side has always been a disappointment.

They've taken away the clubs that made Pleasure Island interesting and are replacing them with more restaurants and bars.

I'll be interested to see what the finished development is like, but it doesn't sound like I'll be spending much time there.

Yes, I suppose if you aren't really interested in the restaurants/bars, there's not much draw. But for people like us (two adults, no kids) who are looking for things to do after 9, besides staying at a park open late, this is a BIG draw.

We also remember Pleasure Island - besides Adventurer's Club, we found it kind of cheesey....but that's just our opinion of course.

I'm sure the higher ups would see that as a benefit? But in our case, wouldn't persuade us to stay there, we would go to Disney Springs regardless of where we decide to stay.

I don't know about that but DH & I bought DVC at SSR 10 years ago. We have recently discussed how the improvements with Disney Springs have made our location an even bigger plus. We have always loved SSR and its proximity to DTD. Now it's getting even better, we think.

I agree with @BuckeyeBama , new high priced restaurants aren't a draw for me, I can do those at home. Though I am pleased with a couple of the new highly themed places, like jock Lindsay's, the Edison place and the rumored peter pan place also sound sweet. For now, I'll probably just go to see the new jock Lindsay's hangar bar, but I have a feeling trader Sam's will get the majority of my bar money.

I avoid DTD like a plague. I only go if I have a good half day and it's raining and I don't feel like visiting another resort and I'm bored. I don't find the shops have anything more than I can get in the parks or at home and while the restaurants might be interesting, I actually like the food in the TS restaurants at the parks and and resorts so I wouldn't fight the transportation problems to get there. The last time I went, I was there before any of the shops opened, I just so happened to get up early and didn't want to fight the battle of rope drop at the parks. It was nice walking around the place empty and after a few shops opened I popped in to look around. I was at the bus stop around 10:00 to head to whatever resort I was going to that day (can't remember) literally waited 45 min. for a bus to appear. You know ones came for every other resort and park but not where I was heading, it was raining and I needed to drop my purchases back at my resort or I would have just jumped on a bus to somewhere else. After that, I swore never again.

If the food is good, I don't mind paying the higher prices, at home or on vacation. It's nice to have more choices than just the signatures at the resorts and part of what we like about vacation (anywhere) is relaxing with a good dinner. The shops I can take or leave.

We decided to check out Disney Springs one evening last week after skipping DTD for the last few years. I think I am good without going back for another 5 years now. We aren't all about the restaurants there though. We usually go after dinner. Shopping wise, it is still just crazy crowded in the evenings and most of the merchandise can still be found in the parks. We find a few things we had not seen in the parks that we liked, but it still isn't worth dealing with the crazy crowds to me. We could barely move through WOD and people were constantly slamming into me.

I haven't read as much info that is available about Disney springs, but I used to enjoy pleasure island as a young adult. I think it would be nice if there were a couple places that were just bars with music that you had to be 21 to gain entry. sometimes my wife and I go with a couple friends (without kids) and it would be great to have a club-like atmosphere with no kids allowed.

When we asked DD7 and DD8 what their favorite park was, they both said Downtown Disney. That being said, we ALWAYS hit up DTD (I guess I should start saying DS) before we leave for some family shopping and general leisurely strolling. I love the additions they're making. It's getting a bit more upscale, which hurts the pocketbook, but it's also becoming more of a destination on its own and I think that's a great thing.
