My mother has the flu and she was no where near the magic. People get sick, that's just the way life is. I'm sorry 25 people got the flu.

we had 5 people out of office from thursday to yesterday out with the flu. that's out of 25 people!

I have to go with the majority here, it is flu season and 25 isn't many. I just hope it's not one of our DISers - Norwalk or flu, it isn't fun being sick on vacation.

I agree it is flu season.

However, didn't Holland American perform a "thorough decontamination" of their ship? Only to have the virus infect the next set of passengers. If I read the article correctly, they have removed it from service for ten (10) days to perform a more "thorough" cleaning.

Mark Jaronski (DCL spokesman/person) stated in the article, "The federal authorities said this is not the type of thing you turn on and off. It's more of a situation where it slowly abates."

Makes me wonder (no pun intended) how serious Disney taking this situation? Look what happened to Holland American.

Are the DCL ships still stopping at Castaway Cay? Do you think they are considering the possibility of cross contamination?

there are a couple threads going on this topic. Last week there were 250+ folks ill. Disney has contacted upcoming 11/30 cruisers about the situation; extensive cleaning was done before the 11/23 cruise embarked. I would expect the number of sick passengers to climb this week. It is flu season, and this flu strain is a nasty one. It isn't isolated to the Magic, but since the Magic is the Magic, obviously there is a story there.....

Most of the people around here missing work who have the flu are sick with an upper respiratory infection. Coughing, sneezing, body aches, fever.

The illness on these ships causes primarily vomiting and diarrhea.

How sad for the passengers getting sick.

The flu and a stomach bug are 2 entirely different things! It is a shame the media cannot get that right ! The flu usually lasts about a week and is upper respiratory and all over aches and a high fever. Stomach bugs are 24-48 hours of stomach problems! A flu shot does NOT protect you against a stomach bug like the Norwalk virus.

It could have been just a coincidence, but our healthy DD3 became very ill on the 3rd day of our vacation at WDW last week. We were staying at the YC and many people on the cruise stay there before and after their cruise.

She had symptoms mentioned and they were gone in 24 hours but it affected her for the rest of the trip.

If you're going anywhere near WDW or the cruise then bring down medicine, which is something you should do on vacation anyway. Who knows what you're exposed to being around that many people.
