More Aulani Excursion Info

I called member services yesterday and they still don't have a handle on all the excursions. Does anyone know about booking the Rainbow Reef snorkeling excursion, the one on property. I kept getting passed along to diff depts. Also I tried to book a character breakfast and the computers were down or something so I have to call back as she doesn't think it went through. Hope they fix all the bugs before it opens!

My impression of Rainbow Reef is it is a snorkeling area where you just jump in. I haven't read anything about "excursions" there. In pictures, it seems like a relatively small pool.

Well I heard on the podcast that originally they were going to charge for the rainbow reef but Bob Iger said no way. I think you need snorkeling equipment for the area so wasn't sure if you could book that ahead of time. Supposedly it will have 3000 fish so it can't be too small! LOL

It can have 3,000 VERY small fish. There are a couple of pictures of it here, and here is a video: http://servicethisblog.com/?p=2333

The Aulani website still references an entrance fee for the snorkeling but I am really hoping that the podcast team was right!

Yes, you are correct, the Web site does say there is an "entrance fee":
See Hawaiian sea life up-close at Rainbow Reef, the only private snorkeling lagoon on Oʻahu! Snorkel amongst thousands of tropical fish found around Hawaiʻi, including Angel Fish, Butterfly Fish and Tangs. Of course, you can stay dry and view the colorful marine life and snorkelers through the glass window. Forget your fins? Snorkel equipment is included in the entrance fee.

Was told today that it is free to snorkel the reef BUT you have to rent or have your own snorkel gear and that its first come first served...should be madness since we plan to be there opening week.

:cheer2: Thanks! I was planning on bringing my own gear.

That makes sense. Ok so no advance reservations. I saw the original post about an entrance fee as well so I'm glad that was waived at least. But I would have to rent gear so I guess I will be paying regardless.

Did they say how much the snorkel equipment would be to rent? I have a set but DH doesn't. I am not sure it is worth dragging it with me.

I think they recently opened up a bunch of dining reservations as I have been trying for weeks without success and then just a few days ago, it all went through. I got my character breakfast booked - good luck getting yours!
