Do I have to physically have the AP in order to look up AP rates for the 3 DLR hotels? I'm wavering over whether I need to get over to Costco and buy one, but even if I do, that is just a voucher, I don't get the AP until I arrive at DLR right? I don't want to keep asking DIS'ers to look up rates for me, even though you all seem so helpful and friendly.

I just can't decide whether buying an AP is going to save us enough money. Right now we are only doing 2 day park hoppers for our July trip. I can get them for $125 x 2 for dh and I, and $107 x 2 for the kids through our credit union. But we are also planning a Jan trip, prob another 2 park hopping days. That trip isn't set in stone though, so I don't know if we should get AP's or not. Maybe just get one for either dh or I? What perks does it give us? I'd love to try to stay on site for our Jan trip if there are good AP rates. Am I correct in assuming those rates might be lower than the summer rates? It would be Jan 4-7. Or is that still considered holiday season?

No, you don't have to one when you make your reservations, you just need to show proof when you check in. If you purchase one on the internet you take your print out, etc.. We did that too when we first got ours. We booked 4 months ahead and then about 2 weeks before we bought our AP's online.. I hope that helps! :goodvibes

Does one have to be a resident of CA to get the AP deal at Costco?

I don't think so, because Costco is in other states as well. Somone else will chime in but I think there was a thread about this before...

Thanks so much! But I have to call for rates right? Can I look them up online without the AP # in hand?

I don't think you can look them up online before you physically have your pass. However, you can call the hotel and ask for the rate. That is what I did before I had an annual pass. :)

I have read that you can use the barcode on the Costco voucher to look up ap rates, but I've not got personal experience with that to know for sure. You can always call and ask for the ap rates (you can use the ap extension number when you call--they don't ask for proof that you have one).

The Costco passes are good for anyone but can only be purchased from a southern CA Costco (and some central CA ones). You can get one when you're en route, or if you know someone in SoCal, you can have them make the purchase for you. An easy way to do that is to purchase a gift card online to be sent to them in the amount of the voucher(s). They don't even have to be Costco members if you do it that way.

Thanks DizMe!

You're welcome! I should have added that the barcode on the voucher supposedly allows you to register as an ap holder. You will need to go to the website here https://secure-disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/ap/index?name=AnnualPassholderGatewayPage&appRedirect=http://disneyland.disney.go.com/disneyland/en_US/ap/gated/landing?name=AnnualPassholderLandingPage and register, and then you will be able to view the ap site including hotel rates for passholders (assuming it works).

All of the above is correct, including that sometimes you can register with the voucher and sometimes it doesn't work.

HOWEVER! After recent experience, I would NOT trust the website for prices! I used to, b/c I would see prices change, I would see days change to not available, so I *thought* it was accurate...

It told me for 3 days that GCH was available for a certain night at 279.

But calling, they had nothing but a 1 bedroom suite at over 1K. And online booking wasn't possible until the third day (after which I'd already made a reservation for PPH by phone) b/c they were making updates.

Even once online booking was available, they still didn't have the 279 rate.

So I'd call anyway, or just know really solidly in your mind that the rate shown might not be accurate in any way, shape, or form.
