We currently own at SSR and are looking to add on about 120-130 points at SSR. It looks like resale is the most cost effective way to go. My concern is use year. If we go through Disney will they automatically make our use year the same as our original points?

If we buy through resale do we have to go through ROFR, or has that been done before the contract can be listed on the market?

If we do resale, assuming there are points available on the contract, how soon can you make a reservation with those points? I guess what I'm really asking is how long does the closing process take with a resale and it getting in DVC's system? Is it any faster because we are already members?

I'm hoping to be able to plan a trip for early Dec. 2009 and we NEED more points! I can't wait till 2010 to get back to the place I love to call home!

Resale takes longer, 60 days or maybe more, but it costs less.

Shop for a contract that has the points and UY that you want.

All resales go through ROFR. ROFR is just one of the steps in the resale purchase process.

You can make a reservation with your new points as soon as Disney adds them to your account. Being an existing member takes a week off the process.

I just completed the process with TSS. Put my offer in on 1/4/09. Seller accepted it, we signed the papers (they returned them quickly) and it went to Disney for ROFR on 1/6/09. Found out around 1/22/09 that Disney waived ROFR and the contract was ours.

Got our closing papers from the title company around the 26th of January, signed them, sent them back with our check (paid for overnight) and they received them on 1/30/09. Our contract closed on 2/3/09.

I called DVC on Saturday 2/7/09 to add on at BLT and my guide said I was already in the system. I made my first reservation that day. So for me, less than a month.

Most ROFR seems to be happening in two weeks right now so the process can be pretty quick...though I have heard that there are a few taking longer.

it'll probably take a couple of months from start to finish.

also, if you buy the same UY month, be sure to let DVC know early in the process that you want it added to your current membership number.

FYI - My broker said max to close is about 45 days. DIsney has 30 days for RoFR, but it typically takes 2 to 3 weeks. Our paperwork said we should be in the system 7 days after closing. Yes, ROFR is nervewracking (I'm on day 2), but much cheaper way to go. Your broker shoudl be able to advise you on a "fairly" safe amount ot offer and make it, though. Still cheaper than buying direct, but not giong the huge bargain route.

SO, if you have time to wait for a contract with your UY and have time to wait through RoFR, go resale. If you want it quick and easy, DVC is the way to go.

Disney will add resale points to your current membership number if you buy the same UY month and you ask them nicely?
