If after you have checked into WDW resort and paid the full amount,if you have to return home because of immediate family death, will WDW give you a refund?Or a raincheck?

I'll be glad to know this answer too. Three elderly parents in not great health. Of course we never know about any of us.

We recently were concerned about this as FIL was very ill(he ended up pasing away 2 weeks before we left). DH called and inquired what was the cancellation policy. They told us we had 5 days in advance to cancel. Obviously this wouldnt help us much as we wouldnt know we had to cancel until the last minute, if we had to. However, the CM DH spoke with also said anything less than 5 days would be left to the resorts discretion. The CM then also noted on our reservation that we had an ill family member. I guess its basically just a matter of hoping you get a sympathetic CM to deal with, if it comes down to the worst.
Best of luck to you! I know how difficult this situation can be. I hope all works out well for you. Pixie dust on the way!!!

If you purchase trip insurance as part of a package (it can't be added to a room-only reservation) they will usually cover the death of an immediate family member if you have to leave, and the insurance company will reimburse you.

Other than that I think it would be up to the good graces of the resort, and hopefully if such an unhappy occurence took place they would reimburse you for any unused room nights.

On our last trip we had to come home a day early because our son got sick. We received a refund for the one night we did not use - it came in the mail a few weeks after we got home. They were very nice about it, too. This was for room only, not a package. Not sure what their policy would be on a package as we never use them. Hope this helps.:)

This happened to us last year. We had checked in at BC, went to Epcot and got a cell phone call that my MIL passed away. We went right back to BC, hadn't got to our room yet as it was still before noon. To make a VERY LONG story short (which includes our flight home that night having to turn around and make an emergency landing back at Orlando), we had trip insurance thru AAA and got back the amt we paid minus the cost of the plane tickets.

The insurance cost us $60, $30 for each adult, thank God we got it. I

Pollyanna -

POFQ last year was extremely gracious and accomodating last year when my DH fell seriously ill on Day 2. Certainly it had been unexpected, but my love & respect for Disney jumped sky high with the way they handled everything for me.

Think positive and hopeful and know that if something terrible does happen, Disney can handle it appropriately.

Enjoy!

There's NO WAY Disney wouldn't...so long as it's Legit...asked for politely and the request is "reasonable" meaning don't expect to be into a 2 week stay, and on day 10 have to leave and expect the first 10 days refunded....I'm sure you know what I mean :)

Disney is a compassionate company towards it Guest's in distress....another monument to Walt's greatness!

We were at PO French Q. one year and my daughter came down with a fever near the end of our trip. We asked about checking out early and heading back home. They said no problem and paid us in cash ( we had room only plan and prepaid for the entire stay in cash ) for the last two nights. We returned to Disney the next year and had two days left on our tickets to use.

FYI - this past year I did purchase trip insurance on my room only reservation thru the WDTC. Ended up getting a better deal and when I cancelled I received all money back, including trip insurance.
