I love me some polish cooking.

You can stuff them with farmers cheese, potato, sauer kraut

which I like to turn into kapusta like this!

some even like to add fruit.

We like them with sour cream.

Yummy! Can't wait!

Good evening, Moovers!

Hope everyone had a fabulous holiday. I am still stuffed! Luckily I did not have to cook today, but now I am in planning mode for Christmas Eve, when it's my turn. I have the main menu figured out (planning on including the corn casserole), but still looking for some yummy appetizers, prefererable hot. I had some great stuff (crab and cheese?) at my nephew's house today, but I could not find the recipe. Anyway, my problem is, I only have one oven, so I cant really make anything hot, unless it is reheatable in the microwave or microwaveble. I have two dips and deviled eggsplanned so far (1 can ditch one dip), so I really am looking for something else. Or else that will be all, maybe some pretzel sticks, LOL.
If anyone has any good ideas, please let me know!

The family is sleeping, one and all! Silent night for sure, LOL. So I have been going through recipes online. I am watching "Your's, Mine and Ours" on TV right now, that movie is always goog.

I had a lovely afternoon and evening too! We were really glad to leave the house after a couple hours of roofers stomping, scraping, and banging overhead :rolleyes1

My SIL's nephew cooked the turkey on a Weber grill (i.e., using charcoal and wood chips, not bottled gas) and it was delish. The stuffing was a little different too - with wild rice and sausage in it.

Also, my SIL made this interesting Southwestern salad that contained canned corn, finely shredded cheese, green pepper, red onion, a little mayo and Miracle Whip and crushed chili cheese Fritos mixed in at the last minute. It was really different and tasty. I'm going to get the recipe and take that to my Christmas potluck at work, I think.

After watching the Lions get stomped on our hosts' 46" HDTV this afternoon, I think my hubby is finally ready to upgrade to a flat screen!

Marita, you need to go shop at Costco or Sam's Club for some easy to heat up appetizers. Or maybe do the crap dip where you spread softened cream cheese on a plate and top it with cocktail sauce and shredded crabmeat and chopped scallions. This makes a good cracker spread.

Last edited by Minnie_Moo : Today at 11:26 PM. Reason: Is anbody getting up super early for shopping deals tomorrow? (Not me.)

Not me either, Moo! Far be it from me. I'm sleeping in tomorrow.
DS looked through all the newspaper ads today and declared them all worthless.

Costco has easy apps you say? We have a card there. I may just have to make a shopping trip there this weekend. Oh wait, if I have to heat them in the oven, that won't help any while the turkey is in there!

I finally got in the grove with the main meal, but appetizers still stress me out for some reason. All my relatives make great stuff, I offer chips and dip, LOL!

Any suggestions for what to get there?

Moo, I knew I could count on you for posting tonight if anyone did, my fellow nightowl, LOL!

Marita - LOL, yep, I'm still up!

Look and see if they have any spinach artichoke dip you can nuke and serve with pita chips or tortilla chips. Would your family eat hummus? That doesn't require use of the oven. One of our favorite things to make ahead and set out for nibbling is Chex party mix.

I often see things like bite-size quiches and mini spinach puffs in the frozen food cases at Sam's Club (no Costco near me). You could probably bake those ahead of time and just re-heat.

I'm sure Lynette and others will have some suggestions for you.

Thanks, Moo!

I think I will take a trip to Costco this weekend and look around.

I have Jay Leno on right now. The onlight TV guide said NEW, and I thought WOW, on Thanksgiving?

But then he talked about gas being all the way down to $2.85, so I knew that was a repeat. Plus then Michelle Obama was on, talking about "IF" they make it to the White House.

Anyway, guess I better call it a night.

Happy Friday, one and all!!

This looks like it might be the recipe for the salad that my SIL made today, except that she used a mixture of Miracle Whip and mayo instead of all mayo:

2 - 15 oz cans of whole kernel corn, drained
2 cups finely grated cheddar cheese
1 cup mayonnaise
1 cup green bell peppers, finely chopped
1/2 cup red onions, finely chopped
1 - 10.5 oz bag coarsely crushed chili-cheese corn chips

Mix first 5 ingredients and chill. Stir in corn chips just before serving.

I remember posting this recipe before......as it is sooooooo easy...made the day before and is so elegant......

2 cans of crabmeat drained.....does not have to be the expensive
stuff....
1 can of cream of mushroom soup.....
1 - 8 ounce cream cheese
1/2 cup of finely chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped celery
1 cup of mayo.....
2 1/2 tbsps or two and a half envelopes of Knox unflavored geletin
dissolved in 1/2 cup water

combine everything but gelatine mixture....heat .do not boil....while
still
warm stir in gelatine mixture ....remove from heat....pour in a 5 1/2
cup mold.....
and refrigerate......serve on a platter with good choice
crackers......this is a must at most
of our families parties....also gone first......

I put this in a fish mold and it is so cute on a platter with a slice of olive for its eye...

we had a great day yesterday.......my dils family and our famiy. 25 people eating in one room......we had a fantastic meal.....I brought one of the turkeys and stuffing and hubby made the BIG pie....that was a big hit...they had another 7 pies......what fun after......the kids (and some big KIDS) played with the Wii and did karoke and music with guitars and drums on this tv thingie.......very interesting to watch and we had a great time.....

My daughter didnt make the festivities yesterday because she and her hubby had the yucks......they missed out on a great meal........so we took granddaughter and grandson with us so they could visit with everyone...

I posted earlier asking for prayers for an uncle.

He was in a car accident tuesday.

Passed out behind the wheel.

Hit a firetruck!

(He's a retired cop/firefighter)

He was bringing the dog back from the groomers and the dog suffered massively and had to be put down.

He's just banged up, but being observed. They think he's taking something/depression that was not prescribed.

He lost his mother this year and is having estate issues with his troubled brother and SIL (greedy fools) and just can't handle the stress of that. He has an addictive personality and you could just see this coming.

My poor aunt. Like she needs this right now.

As long as he gets the help he needs, he should be ok.

On the disney ADR front, I got a pm from some wonderful diser who is just now canceling her Dec ADR's, they bumped their trip up to Nov and has 2 tables at 1900 for me!!!!:yay: Just waiting to hear back from her when she changes it over.

That means I lose my Tony's ressie. We have seats for 635, spectro and wishes start at 7 and 8. I thought what if we get some really good seats.

It happened for my sister when I made her ressie's last year.

My DH is out shopping with some High School friends, bless his soul. I hate going out shopping as it is, and I refuse to be out there during major chaos. I have enough of that in my life.

Mal's dress rehearsal is today. Look for pictures later!

Nutcracker Nouveau!

Our turkey day was low key. Just us and my mom.

We spent a good hour playing Apples to Apples for the first time and what a fun family game. We laughed the whole time. Grandma even played.

BBN: Of course I won, dah!.:rolleyes1

Happy Day After!

I am chillaxing in my jammies after yesterday's cook-n-clean fest. I have Handel's Messiah blaring and the kids are coloring Christmas decorations. I need to start pACKing today.

No plans to do Black Friday and leftovers for everyone! :cool1:

Mony-- prayers for you uncle. Glad he wasn't seriously hurt, I would be a goner in my small car if I hit a fire truck! Sorry to hear about his dog too. :yay: On gettng your ADR.

Twinkie-- I can just see you sitting chilling with the kids.

I still only have piles sitting around. I was looking at all the t-shirts thinking I will have to do some ironing too...My kids just shove stuff in the dresser when I tell them to put there clothes away or they decide not to wear something and they roll it into a ball and put it back in.:headache:

Pumba -- I remember you telling us your hubby make BIG pies. Have you got any snow. We have been cloudy and yucky the last two days but only got sprinkles of rain so far.

All these recipes sound yummy. I don't do much entertaining. We are loners here. Tomorrow we are going to Hubby's Christmas party that will be our socializing for the year other then with family.

Hi all.
T'giving week is always megastressful in food services, and this one was a doozie. I worked 10-6:30 Mon and Tues, then at 6 am Wed and 5 on Thurs. We were shorthanded all week, so nothing was prepped for the big day. And on Turkey Day we cook not just for patients and stall, but patient's families also. Plus fix supper boxes for supper. Makes for a busy day. We feed folks in 3 locations in the hospital, and have to transport food with buffets set up. By the end of the day, yoiu're a little bit ready for some relief, preferably of the liquid nature. So I got home at 2, drank 3 beers, and was out on the couch by 3:30. Never got all the way off the couch til bedtime. I did manage to drag myself out of bed by 8 this morning, and am ready for a goog day.
SPORTS POST ALERTBig ballgame tonight, our Ladies are playing the Dookies. Top ten team. We'll prolly get buried, but should still be fun.END ALERT
Marita, Dave was new last night, but he always is on T Day. Always does a remote with from his mom's house in Indy and, from his chair in NY, tries to guess what kind of pies she's made this year. Big fun.
Mony, sorry about your uncle, glad he's ok, but losing the dog is heartbreaking. Yea on the ADR, 1900 PF looks like a place to try on the next trip(after Jan). This year's new resort meal is Cape May Buffet.
Lexy, we leave 5 weeks from tomorrow. Driving of course. You will probably leave a day after us and still beat us there. But since we're heading to Boca Raton after, we need the wheels.
Time to think about lunch. Think I'll go out. Maybe a Culver's reuben melt. Mmmm.

I have litterally shoped till Ive dropped today....and just got in ...crazy day stuff selling out in 10 minutes

Happy Black Friday! I think I am fully recovered from the cook-n-clean-athon that was yesterday. We had a lovely holiday, although my grandma wasn't feeling up to coming, so I didn't get to see her yesterday. Still, we had about 20 people for dinner, and then another 12 for dessert. By 10:00 last night, everyone had left and by 11:30 I had the house back in order and got myself to bed.

I have to use this weekend to help Natasha build a wetu (Wampanoag Indian homesite) for a school project. I also have to get the tree up and the whole house decorated, since my annual Santa Party is next Sunday! :scared1: So no Black Friday mall visits for me.

I'm sure Lynette and others will have some suggestions for you.

Marita, how about melon wrapped in prosciutto (no cooking involved at all!), or a big antipasto platter with marinated roasted peppers, artichokes and olives and some cubed Asiago cheese and soppressata. Again, no cooking involved...you just arrange everything on a tray and put it out. It's actually best served at room temp, since the flavors are at their best then. One that goes a bit farther: calzones. You can make them early in the day, or even the day before, and then use the microwave to reheat them. When I do them, I always do a chicken parm one, a vegetarian one with mushrooms, cheese and spinach, and one with imported meats and cheeses. If you want specific instructions for calzone, let me know.

Can't wait to see some suggestions from the others. popcorn::

Pumba and Lynette, thanks for the recipe and suggestions! All sound yummy! I'll have to sleep on it. Not a lot of time to cook, prep. What I really need is a Cleaning Lady!
Santa Baby??????? Send me a lady tonight!!!

Nabbie, we are loners too, the only time we have guests is Christmas Eve. Packing is better than no packing, right?????? You are going on a cruise, you lucky Duck! So YAY!

DTD, Yikes, sounds like a wuckety week. Hope you enjoy your time off!

Twinkie,
sounds like a great day off!

Mony,
never tried Tusker House for dinner, but I went for breakfast once, and it was great, lots of choices and great food.

BH and other shopping fools, no shopping for me today! DH buys what needs buying for the little kids in the family. Cut-off is 12 or 13. We dont do gifts with adult relatives. I asked DS what he wants today, he said "Nothing". But leave it up to DH to get him something. I sitll have unopened gifts from last year around! (well, opned from wrapping paper, but unoped boxes, even for what was on wish lists)We are fortunate (NOT RICH), but no adults "need" anything. And I decided yesterday to skip the White Elephant exchange this year when SIL asked. It just felt wrong in this economy. Although that is probably the wrong thing to do, with businesses needing the business. But Im not really in a mood to spend money on stuff that nobody either needs or wants. Just call me Grinch!!

All I want is the ear rings I ordered ($60), but they are backordered and likely never to be received.

DD is a cooking fool in the kitchen, making some elaborate spaghetti sauce. She's been at it for an hour:scared: DH and DS are out for the latest Bond movie. Nobody is volunteering to go see Twilight with me. :headache:

Oh, I asked DD to make the Gooey Pumpkin Butter cake for xmas eve. She can contribute something, right? But NO!!!!!!!!!

She wants to try to make her Omi's (my mom's) Strawberry Torte. Bless her heart!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL! She has never tried this before. I think I will steer her to a store bought pie bottom. Even my mom stressed over the baking of the pie bottom. But then again, she never listens to me... (DD that is)

Anyway, the Strawberry Torte would be great, it was a fixture for many years at our annual gathering( 25? 30?). With whipped cream, of course!

Boy the price you have to pay to take your kids out school for the week.

Hannah got 10 pages of math she has to read and figure out and do 10 questions on attributes...sorting them using a Venn diagram etc. :confused3 I don't remember any of this so I will have to read up on it first.

Then her teacher made her make a flat friend yesterday. This flat friend (Hannah called Maple) has to go on the trip with us and we have to take picture of Hannah and Maple doing things. And she has to journal about the picture took. Sure hope we don't lose Maple! At least she will be laminated so if she gets wet in the pool it will be ok.

Nicholas has a science project that he has to work on. A-Z , animal for each letter , picture and 5 facts about it. He is slow as molasses at this too it is driving me crazy.

I hope we get this done before we go away so I will stop stressing. If not I will leave my troubles behind hopefully next Friday.
