I am wondering whether it is worth $75 to go on the moonlight safari experience at Kidani Resort rather then just go on one of the evening safari rides at the park. What is special on the $75 experience?

You're given night vision goggles at the resort. If you do the safari at AK when it's dark, you're not given night vision goggles and you won't see more than a handful of animals.

If you decide on AK, I recommend riding around sunset, not when it's completely dark

Frankly I’ve found the safari at AK at dark to be great. If you go after sunset the lines are shorter. We rode multiple times in a row and had a different experience each time. One ride we never saw any animals but the following rides we saw many. We had the same driver on several trips and our last ride through we were the only ones in the vehicle. She let us ask questions and really took her time going through the safari as there weren’t many people riding at the end of the night. It was wonderful. That said, each ride is different and the AKL tour sounds pretty neat as well, although we’ve never done it.

As previously mentioned, the safari ride at AKL is with night vision goggles. However, they only take you out on the savannah at the hotel property. It's good and you get a glow in the dark pin exclusive to that experience.
