So, it happens we will be in WDW for a Moonlight Magic night. We are doing a Universal week, then activating our passes on the 4th of July. We are staying off property, so we'll be booking on the second option date. The MLM is June 29th.
Here are a couple of questions.

How fast have the previous events filled?

Do we need our magic bands? Since we are activating our passes 5 days later, if we scan our passes, that will activate them and I do not want that to happen. Is it a separate ticket?

While I would not consider it a ticket, if you want to then I would say yes, it is a separate ticket.

In the past, I have always parked tickets I did not want activated into a bogus account on MDR - EG-Guest A. However, since you are activating 5 days later, you probably have FPs to worry about and can't do that.

All in all, I would not let Disney touch my magic band in your case. ID and your Blue Card or digital version of it.

You will want to have the PhotoPass photographer scan your MagicBand if you have any pictures taken. Once you activate your annual passes, you will be able to download the photos without the watermark.

Your blue DVC member card and photo ID are sufficient. Like auroraborealis said, getting tickets without staying on-site is going to be your setback, as the sign-up for those tickets is a few weeks after they give tickets to people staying on-site. Some DVC members book a night only for the night of the event just to get the tickets. Have you been to a Moonlight Magic event before?

Yes, I’ve booked one night reservations three times now to be able to get into Member Magic.
