Moonlight Magic Dates 2026 - Dates have been released!

I am once again channeling my Inner Curmudgeon, but:

The point of MM is not to give existing DVC members an opportunity to spend some "free" time in the theme parks. The point of MM is to sell DVC points to people by allowing them to imagine what it would be like to be so special as to be Disney's favored guests.

If DVD is simply looking for good press, then why offer so many MM nights?

Why not, for example, just offer one MM night for each of the five locations hosting MM? Non DVC members are still going to read about the “free night at Epcot” (for example).

Instead, DVD offered 12 MM nights, much more than are needed for good press.

What does DVD gain by offering so many nights?

Perhaps at least part of it is:
  • Existing DVC members are much more likely to buy add-on points than the random non-DVC member.
  • Word-of-mouth from existing DVC members is one of the best ways to attract new members.
Either way, it benefits DVC to make many current DVC members happy.

They were offering a luggage tag if you brought someone to talk DVC to sign up during MM, no chance I’m spending any of my precious 3 hours of MM talking to sales people.

I was able to get a night in CA and I was able to somehow talk my husband to extending our 10 night (cruise included) into a 12 night for April. So if I am lucky enough to get tickets at registration time I will be able to attend 2 MM. Wanted to add I was able to get the FL room using home resort priority since it was just before 7 months out. TBH I think they should release MM dates before 7 months even if that means not releasing all dates all at once.

I had a friend do this in AK last year. The CM asked how many were in her party and handed her the tags. No non-DVC members in the group. No sales pitch. The luggage tag wasn't anything special, but if you're passing the spot it's always worth a try!

I could be persuaded for a magic band thing then. (cannot remember what they are called)

Had this
I swear...for the date we will be there early reg opens at 11:00am ET and I'll be on a flight leaving at 10:45am. What are the odds. 😂 Guess I'm buying Wifi and fingers crossed it works!
happened to me last year on the general registration date. Tickets ran out during early registration, but I was lucky enough to snag some with WiFi on my flight during general. Miracles can happen. 😂

This is the first time we have tried to go to Moonlight Magic, so I have some rookie questions. We will be staying at Bay Lake Tower on a "cash" reservation that will be booked by someone else since it is part of a conference package. Do "cash" reservations qualify, or does it have to be a DVC stay on points? If cash works, do I just need to have my name associated with a reservation on the same date as the Moonlight Magic event? Or, do I need to be the one who booked it and paid for it?

I am pretty sure you have to make the cash reservation for early registration. The terms say this.

Early Registration for Members with Resort Reservations

Members may have access to early event registration, when they hold a confirmed qualifying Resort reservation* made:
  • by using their Membership with Vacation Points, Reservation Points or cash, and
  • by calling Member Services or visiting DisneyVacationClub.com, and
  • by the Resort reservation/modification deadline.
If Members have multiple Resort reservations, made under the same Membership, they must add their combined total party size in a single event registration.
General Registration
The general registration is open to all eligible Members (limited availability).

Unless things have changed, cash reservations only count if they are booked through DVC. As I recall, Disney changed this last year. Two years ago, cash reservations counted and there were a few people with cash rear who posted last year that they had been shutout of Moonlight Magic.

In addition, I believe the reservation has to be made in the DVC member’s name.

Thank you! I'll call DVC and double check with them. Appreciate the quick replies.
I would call more than once. They are famous for giving out inaccurate info especially regarding MM.

Hopefully someone that has had a cash stay and attended can share their experience.

I booked 4 nights at BWV for July when the dates came out for DHS. I was surprised rooms are still pretty open, usually they fill up when the dates come out. I guess because they are out earlier and we’re over 7 months.

Yeah, July 20 is not a popular date for DVC members.

In general, July (after the 4th) and all of August are the easiest (read least popular) months to book a DVC room.
