My DD's 7th grade class is heading to Montreal for two days. There are only 11 kids in the class. We have one day that is pretty much open.

Any suggestions on what they can do? We will be doing a tour of old Montreal, Montreal Science Center & Imax, Sound and Light show at Notre-Dame on the first day. The second day is open.

Thanks for your help!!

There is also the Insectarium which is very near the Biodome (across Sherbrooke Street).

Take the subway downtown to visit the underground city (shopping malls).

Will try to come up with some other things....

When will they be in Montreal?

Well, depending on where you are staying--you might take them out for an authentic Montreal culinary experience. I am thinking of Schwartz's (Chez Schwartz Charcuterie Hebraique de Montreal) on St-Laurent for smoked meat. Schwartz's is small, and the seating is family-style, so if your group is large--you will be split up. It would probably be better to have an early meal there, as it can be quite crowded (and a lineup forms out the front door) during peak meal hours.

Biodome is pretty nice (but small). Honestly the only too see in there is the penguins pavillion. Other than that you are pretty much paying to stare at a few seagulls and a rodent.

There are English plays at the Centaur.
The plantarium.
The Cosmodome.
La recreatheque would be nice. It`s full of indoor games like laser and glow-in-the-dark mini-putting.
La ronde.

You can go climb Mount Royal. Located in the centre of the city, it is the geographic feature that Montreal is named after (Montréal = Mont-Royal in 16th Century French) It's really more of a big hill than a mountain, but still provides spectacular views from the top, in addition to being quite beautiful in and off itself (the design was inspired by Central Park in New York City, so lots of lakes and walking paths).

The Park entrances are located on Park Avenue (avenue du Parc), the intersection of Pine Avenue and Peel Street (avenue des Pins/rue Peel) and Cote-des-Neiges Road (chemin de la Côte-des-Neiges). However, on foot and with kids, it can be a bit of a hike. Public Transit does serve the park. You can plan out a route on the STM's website.

You can also visit Tourisme-Montréal's website for more ideas.

My kids love the Biodome when we visit Montreal. The Botanical Garden is nice but it depends on the time of year you'll be there and it may be a bit big (and easy to lose them). The insectarium is right next to it. You could also visit the old Olympic Stadium. I think its near the Biodome. Mont Royal is a great idea too.

Thanks everyone! We are going next month. I'm passing on all your ideas to our French teacher who is coordinating the trip.

Saute mouton ----- Rafting in the middle of downtown. It's located in the old port of Montreal.:goodvibes The students would love it.
