[Louise-Montreal]

When I first came on board there were few DISers from Canada, let alone Montreal. Just curious- how many are from Montreal and whereabouts do you live? If you'd like, you can provide some additional info for the nosy parkers of the world.

I am a teacher, teaching Sec. IV and V (Grades 10 and 11) language arts. I am married, have two kids and live on the South Shore.

Hi ~ I currently live in Mississauga. But I am from Montreal. I lived all over! Started in Montreal, not too far from the Atwater Market. Also lived in Ville St. Pierre, Lasalle, Brossard, DDO. We moved around a bit ~ New York, Winnipeg, Vancouver and now here in Mississauga. I have been married for 12 years and have two children dd 9 and ds 3. I am active in my children's school and work part time (to pay for WDW trips LOL). I teach preschool art classes three mornings a week, and fitness and yoga classes three nights a week. I also teach specialty workshops for the city of Mississauga a few weekends a year. It's a great PT job.

We haven't been back to Montreal in a long time. After my grandmother died a few years ago, we stopped visiting. My sister and mother live in Cornwall and we will be visiting them this summer. I think we will go to Montreal to show my kids where I used to live.

Born & raised in Terrasse Vaudreuil, just off the West Island. Now live in Brockville Ontario. My parents, brother and sister are still in Montreal. We get back every 6 weeks or so. Have to stock up on bagels, baguette and tzatziki just to survive small town Ontario LOL.

PS, the large round breadlike things they call bagels here just don't even come close.

hey! I'm a montrealer! born and raised and now with a family of my own- we live in the west Island (DDO) and I love being in the suburbs. I am a stay at home mom ( for the moment) to my three kids. I love montreal but dream of one day retiring down to Orlando!

Hi everyone,
I now live in Ottawa ( Orleans ) but I was born in Montreal in the middle of a snow storm and moved to Ile Perrrot ( Pincourt ) when I was three and lived there till I was eighteen. I moved to England and when I returned my parents had moved to Terrasse Vaudreuil. I lived there for two years till I joined the Navy as Nurse and moved to Halifax. My late Husband was a Naval Officer and we were posted back and forth between Halifax, Victoria and Ottawa.
Some of my best memories are Expo 67' ( when I was 12 1/2 ) and Crescent street, mainly the Friars pub,( when I was 18 )!!
Also the Forum, OKA cheese bought in Oka, Cantor's Bagels', Quebec city when the ice breaks up in the spring, sugar bush, Ogilvy's window at Christmas, Finnigans' Flea Market in Hudson......I could go on and on....What's everyone else's favourite memories?

Hi all,

I am a born and raised Montrealer. Grew up in Ville D'Anjou (20 years). Later lived in Pointe aux Trembles, downtown, LaSalle, Ile Perrot and finally settle in Pointe Claire for the last 7years.

I am a part time worker outside the home but a proud full time mother of 3 children, DS 12, DD 10 and DS 5.

Favorite memories growing up.....

- La Ronde
- Belmont Park
- '76 Olympics
- greasy fries with steamy hotdogs from La Belle Province for supper on Mom's payday
- Beauty's for breakfast after closing the bars on Crescent/Bishop street at 3 a.m. (in my very late teens, early 20's)
- Concerts at the Forum
- Lois jeans (only in Quebec and only in the East End)
- Tobogganning and skating at Beaver Lake on Mount Royal
- Johnny Jellybeans Restaurant
- Working downtown especially in the summertime

What I love now.....
- St. Viateur Bagels
- greasy fries with steamy hotdogs
- Downtown during the Jazz fest (or any festival for that matter)
- The Old Port and Place Jacques Cartier in Old Montreal
- Moe's Smoked Meat
- The boardwalk at St. Anne de Bellevue, watching the boats going through the locks and then dinner outside at Peters Cape Cod.

Ok, now I'm hungry!

I lived in Lachine for 30 years and moved to Vermont in 1996. You want to talk small town, Vermont is ALL small town!
It's tough living among the Yankees some time, but as my tag says "I am Canadian"!!!

I have definately been on the DCL boards too long...born and raised in the beautiful, yet oh so predictable West Island....yes a Beaconsfield HS, John Abbotter!
I had forgotten about Beauty's! Especially great after a hard night at Crocodile's!!!
Moving to Orlando in the near future with my dd7, to work at Dixie Stampede.
Things I will miss....
The RESTAURANTS!!!Can't get a decent meal any where but here...(Moishe's, Schwartz, Amir/Basha, Chez Cora, China town, even Scores!)
Timmy's doubledouble's...must bring a case with me
Adonis market on Source's...Where am I going to get my Arahova Tzatziki, Shish Taouk etc....!!!NOT at Publix I'm sure
Bagels, real pita....
REAL drivers

Things I won't miss....
Ummm...GAS PRICES.....snow,snow, snow, oh, yeah, and SNOW...and how about freezing rain??!!

You will all have to come visit at the Dixie Stampede...oh yeah, and bring Tzatziki..

I am 45, maried, I have a 14 yrs old boy, I am an insurance broker specialised in making business with the Lloyd's.

I am not living in Montreal but in a little village called Albanel in the north of the Lake St-John area. I am glad that this thread can identify some poeple living in the province of Quebec.

Cabane a sucre!!!!! YES! Except we called it, "sugaring-off". My family went to the Bradley Museum in Mississauga a couple years ago and did a pancake breakky and sugaring-off. It's not nearly the same as in PQ. I remember every year our school would have a field trip to a farm. There were hundreds of tapped trees, a giant blanket of snow and a great gentleman pouring boiling hot syrup over the snow. We kids were given sticks to gather the cooled and hardened syrup. YUM YUM! Our lunch was mashed potatoes with syrup, ham with syrup, beans with syrup, bread with syrup and of course SUGAR PIE!!!!!!

I was just talking to my dh and dd today about the Bread and Milk truck in Montreal when I was a kid. The biggest treat was to have the POM bakery truck roll down the street and my mom would buy us Mae West cakes! She would buy chocolate milk from the milk truck too! That was a great treat!

Remember the candy counter in the corner stores? I would go into the corner store (Mr. Malroney's store), his cat would be curled up under the chocolate bar counter. I would give Mr. Malroney a few pennies and point to the candy I wanted. He would put the candy in a tiny brown paper bag. Gum drops, lemon drops, gummy strawberries, licorice, sprinkled coated chocolate, yum! If I had enough money, I could buy a coke from the giant red coke cooler and open the bottle on the side of the cooler. If I drank the coke in the store, I could return the bottle for a few more pennies and buy Laurentien Chips! No wonder I was a fat kid. LOL! S

OK, Mtl. DIS'ers, who has driven down. I am leaving anytime after April 24th. Any suggestions on where to stay, when to stop etc.? Will be going with dogs too! Any help appreciated...
