Monte Cristo Sandwich?

I remember how wonderful these sandwiches were when we went to DL to visit our aunt and uncle. What a treat.

We loved the Monte Cristo at DLR! Now that I live locally near WDW the only Monte Cristo we have seen on a menu is at Gator's Dockside. It is nowhere near the one at DLR. Sort of wierd acually; but their fried dill pickels are to die for!

It seems like it was somewhere along Main Street, but I do not know where. I always thought it was at Tony's Town Square. I was a kid, though, so who knows...

Your memory is correct. It was located at Tony's. They really were sooooo good. Bennigans have never even come close to tasting as good as those in DW.

The famous monte cristos at the Blue Bayou at DLR are artery clogging pieces of heaven. My DH had the regular version and I had the vegetarian.

It probably is a good thing for me that WDW does NOT have them. Oh they were just too good.

Well, the Monte Cristo has been a tradition at DL since the sixties. If they removed it, there would be a "Save Mr. Toad"-style war going on between the locals and Disney.

Not to mention most of DL's audience is locals who live within an hour of the park. It's not comprised of mostly tourists like WDW is, so the locals have been having Monte Cristos for years, every visit they make sure to grab one.

Monte Cristos, much like the non-alcoholic Mint Juleps here at DL, are institutions. If they were smart, they'd send them to WDW.

Yeah, if they ever try to remove that sandwich from Blue Bayou or Cafe Orleans, it will be mutiny!

I can't wait to have one in October, I can taste it already!

Olivia's at OKW also used to have one but they removed it. Which is a shame!

If you're going off-site at all, Bennigan's has a good monte cristo- pretty much loved these back in college.

They only closed the corporate locations. The franchise ones are still opertating. We have one just a few miles from our house.

A vegetarian Monte Cristo???? I need one of those! DH and I were just discussing what I miss as a vegetarian, and an MC was on the top of my list.

I tried to get a veg one at Bennigan's once, but the wait person said that they were assembled in the mornings.

It's the same as a regular Cristo, but with just cheese as opposed to Turkey, ham, and swiss. I believe it's Swiss, Brie, and Mozzarella.

At my local Bennigans, I've also had the veggie MC made with cheese, tomato, and mushrooms. So bad for you, but soooo good . . . .
