Monte Cristo Sandwich-- to try it or not?

Monte Cristo: To Die For, or Over my Dead Body?

  • Never tried it, but would like to.

  • There is no way you'd ever get me to try that monstrosity of grease.

  • Hated it.

  • Didn't really care for it.

  • Meh-- it was ok.

  • Liked it.

  • Loved it.

  • You'll have to pry it from my cold dead fingers-- yes, it's THAT good.

We like to get a MC and some sort of salad, and share. Half an order is the perfect serving for me, and the sald really helps to "cut" it.

I tried it at Cafe Orleans. I think it's one of those things that are fun to at least try, but try to get your stomach ready ahead of time if it can't handle such greasy things. My stomach was a complete wreck after that, and we actually left the park early that night!

Yummmm, this thread actually made me hungry for one. Then I realized I didn't have one, and so I became sad :(

Me too! LOL And I don't eat the MC anywhere but DL.

And we wonder why the population is overweight.........................

:confused::scared1::sad2:

So yes, I did try it on our October trip, with some trepidations. Maybe I got lucky, but it was soooo good! DD and I shared one at Cafe Orleans, and we had very good, fast service that evening-- so when we got it, it was very fresh and hot. I can understand that it might not be good when it's not hot, but the cheese was very melty, and it didn't seem greasy; though like many foods, by the end of the meal it had cooled somewhat and seemed greasier. DD ate one triangle, and I ate two, and that was plenty!

Here's a picture, in all its glory (Pommes Frites on the side, also YUM!)

OK, now I'm really jonesing for a DL/MC trip. :)

I am at my ideal weight and stay in shape. Up at 7 each morning to work out for an hour...and I LOVE the MC!!! I eat one every trip!

As much as I love them now, they used to be much better. I was sorely disappointed when I tried one in december...was a let down because I had remembered them being amazing and it was good...not as great. This time around I will go into knowing already that it isn't as tastey as before. Still a GREAT sandwich!

Well for me ideal weight would be stretching it a bit but I'm not overweight and my BMI is good. But otherwise I agree with you here Krissy Marissy!

People aren't eating this daily, you know...

:thumbsup2

This is what we like to do, or get the Pomme Frites like Avalon did with her DD. DBF and I love this sandwich!! He can eat the whole thing, and really so can I but I am then too full so I don't. We've had it at the BB and at CO, they are the same sandwich. :) Both just as yummy and just as bad for you. LOL We don't even have one every trip, every 3 or 4 trips works for us. :) Man, I love that sandwich........ooey gooey cheese yummyness. lol

Never tried it thou not sure i would like that amount of fried cheese

saying that thou .. never ever dined at the BB , the amount of times we have rode on potc and looked over always wanted to sit in that ambience

does anyone know (other than salad) what other vegatarian meals they do ?

They have a portabello mushroom dish.

Portobello Mushroom and Couscous Maque Choux - Marinated in a balsamic vinaigrette, then broiled and served with roasted corn and bell-pepper couscous and sauteed spinach. $27.99

I say, try it at least once. I tried it and thought it was OK. So now I know, and I don't have to think about it anymore. :rotfl2:

When I had it, it was pretty much all I ate the whole day... so if you plan ahead to have the calories, and you don't do it all the time, I don't get the overweight thing...but I guess to each his own...plus I heard some people can walk as much as 14 miles in a day at the park. You are burning some serious calories there, especially if its a warm day! I "liked it" but I don't know if its something I will get again. I like other things at DL better. :)

We get them just about every trip. DH LOVES them, and he is pretty picky & doesn't have many favorite foods. Definitely split, maybe add a side.

PO has an all cheese version that I don't think BB has. (?) I find both delicious, but then I believe you can never have enough cheese!! It's definitely a splurge that we ONLY have at DL.

When I go to Disneyland I go right to orleans to get one!! When I went to WDW in November I was so sad to know they do not have them there. Its not a trip for us with out getting this delicious piece of heaven!

Nope, not a fan. Too greasy for me. But, I don't eat fried food so , there ya go.
But I know there are people that love the MC.

I had my first one last October. Not knowing what it was or anything about it I decided to try it. My dd and I each ordered one. We hate greasy food and never eat anything like that at home, but we both enjoyed it. We each only ate 1/2. It is on our list for this next trip of must haves, but we will only order one next time.

I hated it!
The funny thing is that I love cheese and fried food (unfortunately) and was so looking forward to it!
I have to say that I expected it to be more like a fried sandwich as opposed to a fully battered deep-fried sandwich!
However, for everyone who likes them, bon appetit!

I tried it at Cafe Orleans (Had the pepper roast at B.B). I thought the Monte Cristo was really good. Combine it with the french fries there...

Being vegetarian i haven't had one and won't have one...being a person who has issues with the sight of too much previously-melted-now-getting-cold cheese, I won't get the no-meat version either.

My brother, an omnivore who runs marathons, thought he could tackle the MC. He got halfway through, ate some of the meat out of the other side, and called it done. He didn't have the sides, either, as he doesn't so much like veggies. It was too filling, and he can EAT.

Ken2Blitzkrieg, the portobello dish isn't all that great, FWIW. At least not as great as a $30 dish should be. :(

My advice- for four people get 2 orders of the pomme frites and split one monte cristo. Then spend the next two hours trying not to nap.

I prefer the 3 cheese one at Cafe Orleans-our waitress at the Blue Bayou got one for me and my mom there last December, but made a pretty big deal out of it...I had read on the boards here that it was no big deal. In the future we'll probably just go to C.O. and split one with the pommes frites. Oh! I also like mine without the powdered sugar-the waitress was happy to do that for me, though.
