Has anyone seen this? I thought it would be a G, but it is PG. I was hoping to take my DD3, but I think she will be too young. I thought it was a sequel to Monsters, Inc so I am confused:confused3

It is not Disney/Pixar. Monsters vs Aliens is from Dreamworks.

No need to feel stupid-I just googled it (Google is my friend LOL). I am sure they have a preview you can watch to get an idea of how PG it is.

I read a local review about it today (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/03/26/AR2009032604056.html). It indicated that the PG was for sci-fi action and some "humor and mildly suggestive euphemisms."

Not a very favorable review, but DS6 wants to see it, and I still do, too. So we may go this weekend despite the review. I don't always trust them anyway.

Bolt was actually rated PG too

DD doesn't want to see it, she a little freaked out by the commercial. I don't need to see it, it's not Disney/Pixar.

Up! on the other hand I will be going to see :lmao:

I use commonsensemedia.org to help determine if movies are appropriate for our kids. I'm very selective, and they've not seen anything PG yet, nor have they seen most Disney movies which tend to have more violence than I'm comfortable with little kids. (The oldest is 3.5 years old, so it's not saying that much!)

Not sure about this one yet... We will probably go see it...
We saw Bolt on Disney Wonder, personally it was not a favorite

I took my 7 and 10 y old today. It was a full theater with young and older kids (spring break and rain lol). IMO I dont think a 3 yr old would get the humor. Dont get me wrong its a cute movie, we liked it but its more I think for like 2nd grade and up.

We took DD3 today. She enjoyed it, but I know she didn't follow it the way that she has followed others. There were a lot of explosions and a strong plot to follow, and I know that she struggled a bit (she asked questions).

But she loved the 3D! She kept saying it was just like at Disney!

I like www.kids-in-mind.com for objective descriptions of every little detail that parents might wonder about in a movie.

We saw Monsters vs. Aliens with our kids age 2 and up. Everyone enjoyed it very much even though the younger ones didn't get the plot at all. No one was overly scared. I hadn't checked kids-in-mind beforehand and I was a bit surprised by the level of violence and threat of violence (lots of cars getting ready to fall off a bridge into the ocean with horrified people inside, bad guys getting killed by good guys and this set up to get a big laugh from the audience, that kind of thing). Nothing "bad" but a little intense for the young ones I think. The overall messages were very good we thought--being tolerant of people who are "different," women not needing a man to be happy in life, loyalty to friends even though they aren't always perfect.
There was a lot of humor aimed at adults. Not "adult humor" for the most part (I hate it when kids' movies have a lot of sexual innuendo and this one had a little but not much). Just jokes that adults get but kids might not, like references to Close Encounters of the Third Kind. DH and I enjoyed the movie as much as the kids did.
We saw it in 2-D to save a few bucks and to save the frustration of picking the kids's 3D glasses up off the floor a million times. It was fine in 2-D but I'll bet the 3-D is very fun.

This is what we use. :thumbsup2 They rate movies based on their sexual content, violence/gore, & profanity. If I see high marks against a movie, we don't even consider it for the kids (or many times for DH & myself!)

Is the 3d version really like WDW 3d movies?:3dglasses I can not do the red /blue glasses 3d. WDW 3d has me spoiled. :3dglasses

We saw it with my 5 year old. I think 3 would be a little young to follow the story, and there are a few mildly scary "hero in peril" kind of moments. Most of the kids in the theater when we went were probably 5+ with a few younger siblings. From the reviews I've seen, the 3D effects can be a little intense for some kids, and a little annoying and un-necessary for the adults.

it was OK, but it was no Pixar movie ;)

I took DD4 to see it last night and she liked it, but it was a bit drab at times. The concept was cute and the CGI done well... But not like a Disney/Pixar film though. I liked Coraline better but that is definately not for every child. My DD saw it twice now and loved it. MvA is fun and there is nothing bad in it. The evil alien says space balls.
