We have a tripod, a monopod and a pocket tripod. We don't usually take any into the parks since we spend most of the time running to rides and attractions with the kids.

However, I have been experimenting more with the cameras, we have a Canon digital Rebel and an Olympus C-5000, and would like to try and get some good night shots this trip.

There is no way I can envision us carrying the tripod into the parks, so it is definitely out. It won't bother me at all to carry the pocket tripod so I'll for sure try it. But my question is, will the monopod help enough to be worth taking? We have a Manfroto ?. Sorry, I'm not really familiar with monopods. DH bought it, it doubles as a walking stick. TIA

Monopods can be useful to hold a camera steady. While not as good as a full-size tripod, they can make a big difference in the quality of night shots. I use a monopod alot, especially when using my 400mm 2.8 for sports, even in the daylight, the lens can get very heavy.

They can also be useful with a camcorder, we use ours during long taping sessions such as the shows at WDW. By the way, we never use the camcorder light or a flash during these shows.

a monopod will give you a stop or two. they are great for night shots but not for fireworks.i dont recommend the monopods that have tripod feet - they don't help any more.

A friend of mine made one out of a tent pole, quite clever. While I was trying to learn the basics of photography and the ins and out in disney while standing in line with him, his brother, and my fiance he was bragging about the mono pod he made. I introduced him to the idea of a Mandy pod. They work just as well, are easily transportable since they are a bipod by nature and only require frequent stops at the restroom.
