Does anyone know if you can still request to ride up front on the monorail? I can't find anything current doing a search... And, I don't want to promise DS if its no longer a possibility. (I saw one poster who said they had heard it wasn't... but I was hoping for some more concrete info.)

Thanks!

Sorry that doesn't happen anymore. Unfortunately since the Monorail accident it is to much of a liability for Disney so guests are not permitted in the front.

Hope you have a great trip.

Thank you for answering! That's a bummer.... DS2 was definitely looking forward to it. But, I understand where its coming from. Its a shame that its come to that, but :confused3 what are ya' gonna do?

Glad I know so I can tell them ahead of time! Thanks so much! There's certainly a ton of other exciting and magical things to do!

You are welcome.

And yes there is PLENTY to do to get excited about.

Hope you enjoy your stay!!

That explains why I didn't see anyone riding in the front a few weeks ago...

We rode up front (and got the monorail co-pilot licenses for the kids) in December. We just asked nicely and they said O.K. Maybe it depends who you talk to or maybe we were just lucky???????? I would still ask and see what happens - can't hurt and might work for you. Good Luck.

You lucky duck! :thumbsup2

We rode up front in March 09. I do not remember when the monorail accident happened.

The accident was in July of 2009.

I would be shocked if that CM was reported, he hasn't lost his job. Please do not ask nicely and don't put a CM in that position of potentially losing their job. That CM was wrong to do so.

Disney has been emphatic since the accident happened in July 2009 that NO ONE will ride in the front of the monorail - hands down. It is too much of a liability. They were lucky that it occured at the end of the night and there were not any passengers on the monorail at that time.

I doubt you will ever see anyone ride in the front of the monorail again.

Are you sure about the date. Since the accident it has been made very clear that no one can ride up front. I would be shocked if this happened in Dec. 2010. Maybe in Dec. 2008.

Lucky! Thanks for the heads up, maybe they have started letting people at the front again? We will give it a try when we go in a couple of weeks!

Sorry I don't think so, we were there the first week of Feb 2011 and it wasn't happening.

What year?

It would have been big new on the boards if Disney did allow it again. Sorry but I think the previous poster is mistaken on the year.

As you all know, the reason that they no longer allow guests to ride up front anymore is because a CM was killed in that accident. Regardless of the liability, Disney now knows it is unsafe to have guest ride up front. We should not want our children to ride up front any longer, regardless of how dissappointed they would be, their safety comes first.

It was a terrible tragedy that the CM lost his life of course but it's irrational to say we should not want our children to ride up front any longer if it becomes allowed. There has been one accident in the entire time the monorail has been running. Do you not let your children ride cars or buses? What about airplanes? Haven't people died on those too? I'm not going to be upset if he can't ride because rules are rules of course. However if they had started letting people ride I would do it without a second thought and we continue to ride at the front of the monorail here all the time.

The problem is with how the trains at WDW are designed. Unless they get completely new trains, they will not let people ride in the front again. Any monorail pilot who allows guests to ride in the front faces termination.

We just asked on February 11th and we're told they don't do it anymore. And it was in the tone of "where've you been???" like we've been out of the loop forever or something!!
