Monorail stop

We loved everything about Disney but one strange thing did happen to us. We were on the monorail and it stopped four times. Not at resorts or anythinf ... people on the monorail with us said it never happens and it set fright in my heart. :( Now it did start back up but the conductor said they were backed up but he laughed and said they were doing safety checks. This was not funny to me. WE stopped at the worst places too. He could have stopped at the hotel ramps or something but noooo he stopped on a huge hill and then over lots of water than high again both other times. I just wish he would have waited at the start or when we went through the one building. I am scared of high places anyway and just made me uneasy.
I did ride it back and never had any problems after that!

I have had them stop it and announce they were waiting for the traffic to clear. Huh?

We've had the monorail drivers tell us that they were performing safety checks previously. One even said that they were "testing the brakes for guests safety". That made me feel like a guinea pig!

I was able to ride in the front of the monorail all the way around from the POLY back to the POLY and then on to the MK. They did safety checks while we were riding along. It was pretty neat from up front. From memory: What they had to do was speed the monorail up as fast as it could go and test the breaks. They also had to try to "hit" the monorail in front of them to make sure the safety mechanisms worked!!! Apparantly you can not get too close to the monorail in front of you, 'cause they were still quite a distance away when the breaks kicked on and we stopped :) Of course, the driver was ready to hit the breaks if they had not kicked on by themselves ;)

I just think they should let you know if this is going to happen cause a chicken like me would wait for the next monorail!:( The only good thing was it made me take out time and pray before entering the park!:o

The Monorails can stop for all sorts of reasons.

We had a good laugh in Epcot once. There was a monorail, stopped in it's tracks, because a heron wouldn't leave the track. They beeped the horn at it, nothing. That bird wouldn't budge.

This went on for a few minutes until the bird finally flew away.

They do stop for traffic as well.

To be honest, I'm so used to it stopping that I don't pay attention to what they're saying is the reason.

The people who told you that it never stops may not have been that experienced with how it actually runs.

Thanks for letting me know it is normal but I still hope they don't stop on me anymore when I am high up over water. Call me chicken. I can't believe I can ride rRock and roll coaster and such yet the monorail stopping made my heart skip a beat!

Most times it's because the monorail in front of them hasn't left the station yet. Those things are very sturdy and stable, so don't worry about anything bad happening. It's not like banked curves or anything where the monorail leans on it's side. They're just doing it for safety.
