Monorail. So what's the big deal?

This was our very first "ride" at WDW. An excerpt of my trip report from our trip in Oct, 2000:

What more can I say about pulling up to and walking into the Poly for the first time…WOW!!! Check-in is almost too efficient. They move so fast we almost didn’t have time to breathe. We got there at about noon and were told that our room wouldn’t be ready until about 3 or 4. No problem. We decided to hop on the monorail and get our AP’s at MK!!! So we head up to the 2nd floor of the Poly to catch the monorail. The sliding glass doors open and my 7 yr old son darts through and runs to toward the monorail gate. An attendant promptly “scolds” him for running. Drew’s face drops to the floor since he's getting yelled at, at WDW(he is highly sensitive) the attendant, seeing his dejection, says “Thanks for listening, Would you like to ride in the front of the monorail?” How’s that for dumb luck? Our first ride on the monorail and we get the front…actually there is only room for 4 so I do the noble thing and let everyone else ride the front.

One of my favorite memories.

It's a novelty.

Honestly, it's just transportation to me. We stayed at CR 2 yrs ago. The monorail is only direct to MK. It was a long "haul" to get to Epcot. First MK to TTC, transfer, then new train to Epcot. It took us almost an hour & we were exhausted. (We were just going to a PS at Coral Reef, too).

It is nice if you like to dine or shop at other monorail resorts since the CR, Poly & GF are "linked".

The one thing I hate most abt riding the monorail, is that long walk up those ramps! Especially when you're pushing a stroller.

I so much more enjoyed the boat transportation at WL. Much easier to visit CR & FW via boat.

Kids like the monorail. Our 4.5 yo loves it.

I don't love it or hate it. It's just transportation.

Maybe it is just me, but the monorail did NOT do anything for me. I stayed at the GF thinking that was going to be one of the perks. It was fine to the MK. Coming back always seemed to take forever and going to EPCOT was a trek. I found it faster to drive to Epcot and walk from the parking lot. I actually decided I perfer busses and my car to the monorail.

I won't stay at a Monorail resort just because of the monorail. (Actually the only one I want to stay at is CR for something like MVMCP so I could walk! I did GF, never again, and don't really like the Poly!)
