Which monorail resort would you recommend? Traveling with husband, son (20 months), and grandparents. We are debating between The Contemporary and The Polynesian. We want to be on the monorail simply because of ease of access to MK. Also, considering a meal at Chef Mickey's, but that does not mean we have to stay at Contemporary. Also, how which resort is the first stop from the MK and which is the last stop before MK?

Thanks in advance for any help!

I prefer the CR. I really enjoy the theming and kids love the monorail going through thhe resort. But I LOVE the walkway to the MK. Beats taking the monorail (maybe 7-15 minute walk depending on your speed). All of the tower rooms have a balcony (but the garden wing do not but they are less $$$) so if you book in the tower you will get a balcony. Also, very little to no chance for construction at the CR other than routine maintenance but there are lots of rumors flying around about changes coming to the Poly. We'll be there in 18 days with our twin 2 year olds!

My 50 year old "child" (DH) would say CR, strictly because of the monorail running through the building.

Our sons loved CR bc of the monorail going through the resort and Chef Mickey's. They're constantly asking to stay there again. :goodvibes

We are staying at the Poly in Jan with my then 20 month old DD. We have stayed at the CR and loved it, but the theme at the Poly is so amazing and relaxing. Plus the rooms are bigger. You also have the ease of walking to the TTC and taking the monorail to EPCOT from the Poly. We loved CR, but we are really looking forward to Poly!

My choice would be the Polynesian because of the theme. If you want to go to Epcot, you can easily walk to TTC and take the Epcot monorail.

I would vote for the Poly. The themeing is so relaxing. It's nice to come back to the hotel after a busy day and hear the soft hawaiian music and see the tiki torches buring.

Our son's first Disney stay was a split between CR and Poly, when he was two and a half. We though he would prefer the CR because of the monorail. He did really love seeing the castle from our tower room (and the fireworks). We, as parents, loved the walking path to MK. He seemed to like the Polynesian better, mostly for the volcano pool. He just loved that slide. He also really liked seeing the little duckling families walking around the grounds, and the torches at night. My husband and I loved being able to walk to the TTC for buses to other parks (more direct than sharing with multiple resorts and they at least seemed to come more frequently) or the monorail to Epcot. We did Chef Mickey's at CR and Ohana at Poly, and grabbed lots of dole whips at the Poly, too. For us, we usually pick the Polynesian when choosing between those two, although we are booked at BLT for now for our next trip. I know it isn't helpful to say that you can't really go wrong with either, but it is true. These are among the most conveniently located hotel choices at Disney because of the ability to walk to MK or TTC. We really do love them both. For what it is worth, I prefer the grounds at the Polynesian and the rooms at CR.

Monorail route is:
MK
CR
TTC (transfer to Epcot)
Poly
GF
(repeat from top)

Both resorts are equally convenient in terms of transportation (CR=walking distance to MK, Poly=walking distance to the TTC for Epcot transfer).

I would base your decision on whichever theme looks most appealing to you. I would always pick the Poly due to the beautiful torch-lit grounds, MK castle view from the pool, etc. We just love everything about it. :goodvibes

This! A lot of people say the CR has no theming, but it is called the Contemporary. To me the rooms fit the name. I love the proximity to the MK,great dining options, and if you get a theme park view room, the view of Wishes can't be beat! I'm one of those that thinks the Poly is a little too dark and over-the-top,plus the construction info is definitely up in the air right now.

We stayed at GF and loved the monorail to MK but hated the transfer to get to epcot. And the week we were there (marathon weekend---YUCK) the monorail was having issues. We got "stuck" at CR and had evac. and go catch buses.
