Monorail resort vs. Something new

We're still a ways away but I'm starting to think about our next Disney trip (probably early to mid next year). My kids will be 5 and 2.

We've been twice and stayed at the GF and the Poly. We really liked the convenience of the monorail resorts but I'm wondering if we should try something new (and save some money along the way). Part of me feels that with kids this young (and with strollers) we should stick with a monorail resort and suck up the extra cost. Is it much more difficult not having monorail access with kids that young?

If people recommend sticking with monorail would you suggest trying the Contemporary since we haven't done that one yet? If you think monorails aren't that huge of a deal what would be a good one to try with a 5 year old girl and a 2 year old boy? I"d probably look to do a moderate or deluxe (non-monorail deluxe seem to run a little cheaper).

Thanks.

with kids that young - would probably go with POR or POFQ -- kids love that pool.

you don't have the easy access of the monorail. but the buses are fine at WDW - my niece and nephew spend their childhood using the buses at OKW - they actually (then) loved it.

sure the monorail was fun and most trips including riding it once - but don't think they feel deprived.

think you and your Dw will miss it more.

We have stayed at the Poly for the last 4 years and are trying the BC this year for something new. We still love the Poly but with renovations going on there I just wasn't in the mood plus a change here and there is good. We saved some money with the BC since they are a little cheaper since it is not on the monorail.

However, with two little kids I don't know if I would give up the monorail yet if you can afford it.

I think the monorail resorts are great with little ones in strollers. If you choose to stick with a monorail resort, I think the CR is worth a try. We've stayed at the Poly and GF and love them both, but are trying the CR for the first time in December. The CR has never appealed to me as far as theme/decor, but after reading up on it and looking at pics, I'm actually excited to give it a try. With that said, if you want to save some money but still be close to MK, the WL is a great resort. It's not on the monorail, but it is very convenient to MK via boat. You can also take the boat to the CR where you can hop on the monorail to visit the Poly and GF. We've also stayed on the Epcot side (BC) and while the Epcot resorts are nice, they aren't that much less than the monorail resorts and aren't very convenient to MK (IMO). Good luck :wizard:.

We stuck with the monorail through the stroller years (and slightly beyond). CR was one of our favorite resorts, so perhaps try for a garden wing room to save money? (Rooms are identical in size and decor, but you will lose the balcony unless you get a ground floor room that will have a patio).

If you still spend the majority of your time at MK, then I wouldn't give it up that area yet (unless WL appeals to you. You lose the monorail, but still have easy access to MK at a better price than any of the monorail resorts).

We stay primarily on the EPCOT side now and love the easy access to both EPCOT and DHS.

With little kids like yours, I'd definitely stay at a MK-area resort. Not just for the monorail, but for the proximity to what is generally little kids' favorite park.

CR is a great choice, since you can also walk to MK. Plus everything's under one roof and relatively compact, which is nice after walking around the parks all day. And the rooms are HUGE and just renovated. :thumbsup2

If you want to save a bit of money, I'd suggest you look into WL, as well. You can take the boat to MK (and I'm pretty sure on the big boat you don't have to fold up the stroller), it has fantastic theming/atmosphere, and it's also somewhat compact. Oh, and renovated rooms, too. The rooms are quite a bit smaller than those at CR, Poly & GF, though (hence the lower price tag).

We stayed at the Poly for our first trip in 2008, thinking we would try all of the resorts once eventually. But after now having stayed at 3 others since, nothing else ever measures up, so I think we will just go back to Poly next time.

If you are used to being on the monorail and enjoy it, you may have a hard time not being frustrated with the buses, especially if you spend a lot of time at MK. And if you really are set on trying something new, the CR would be a great option.
