Monorail questions

DH and I would both like to ride the Monorail to get a good view of the park. It seems like it might be good activity for when the kids need to just sit and rest for a while. I have a few questions:

1. If you get on in Tomorrow Land, can you ride round trip back to Tomorrow Land, or do they make you get off in DTD so that you have to wait in line again for the trip back? (I had that issue with a carnival tram once and had to choose between a long line or a long walk to get back to where we started.)

2. How long is the ride?

3. Is it air conditioned?

TIA!

Yes, can ride round trip back to tomorrowland. Don't know exactly, but it's only a few minutes, maybe 10 roundtrip? Can't remember if A/C but guessing it is. HTH!

Yes you can do round-trip from TOMORROWLAND ONLY. Everyone has to exit at the Tomorrowland Station.

The trams/monorail cars are NOT Air Conditioned. They actually close the monorail in the afternoon when it gets too hot.

I was worried we would run into that issue during our trip last summer.

I wonder what the temp has to be to close it. When we were there in August we rode it back to the DLH and it was 93° outside. It honestly didn't seem that hot during the ride.

It depends how many trains they're running and how long you have to wait for one to clear a station. You can end up sitting on the tracks for awhile in a hot car if there's an issue loading or unloading the train ahead of you.

1. Yes, you can make a round trip ride. You do not have to get off at DownTown Disney.

2. 10-15 mins round trip

3. There is no AC in any of the cabins EXCEPT the front and back nose of the monorail. If AC is important, you can request to sit in the either nose of the monorail.

Definitely try to grab a spot in the nose with the operator, it's a lot of fun and the views are great, plus as mentioned you get AC. I've never had to wait more than one additional train once I've asked.

These seats are requested with whatever CM is waiting around, correct? We've always wanted to do this, but never have.

I've got a question too. What time does the monorail start running ? We have a 8:50 breakfast at the Plaza Inn and staying at the Disneyland Hotel. If opening is 9,wondering if we can ride the Monorail in for breakfast. Thanks

The first train leaves DtD at opening. So you will NOT be able to use this to get to your breakfast.

At Disneyland the Monorail is considered an actual attraction, unlike WDW where it is just transportation. So it runs on park time. You can't use it to get into the park before it officially opens. If it is during an EMH day I think it is open for hotel guests, but only if it's EMH.

Yes, ask the CM lining people up and they will let you know if there is anyone in front of you and tell you where to wait. It's a fun thing to do and the view from the front is great and actually a little thrilling because you get to see the narrow track the Monorail is riding on.

You'll have your best bet in TL as there are often round-trippers who won't get off in DTD.

I've always been told it's first come, first serve, whoever gets to the door first gets it, and no waiting for the next train, you have to clear the loading/unloading area. It's at the discretion of the pilot if they'll allow anyone. And no strollers. I've seen 1 parent take the kids while the other rides in the car with the folded stroller.

OP, not sure when you're going but I believe the monorail will be closed for refurb quite sometime starting next month. Hopefully you're going soon??

Edit to add, I think you're already there! Whew!!

We used 2 of the 3 days on our SoCal passes last week. We had planned 3 days, but our 5 year old was not feeling well. We plan to return for a Saturday in early May. Hopefully, the Monorail will still be running then. Thanks for the info and tips re the front car.

In my experience they have always let us wait, but I've also been told once they were not allowing passengers upfront at that time for some reason. So it will always be up to the CM's discretion.

What are the expected refurb dates for the monorail?
Thank you

FYI - most hoppers expire 13 days after first use, so unless this is a special pass they will no longer be valid in May.

The So Cal 3-Day passes are good on any three days between January 9th and May 25th. I sure wish they would include Northern California in these deals!
