if we are not hotel guests, can we ride the monorail to downtown Disney, get off and grab some food at like earl of sandwich, and then ride back into the park? I will be have to go back to the gates for re-entry with our tickets?

Yes. The monorail is open to all park guests. It is really an attraction and NOT really a shortcut/faster than walking. But I enjoy it as it gives you a birds eye view of the parks.

Thanks! I thought the kids would enjoy it, but even better if we could get a breather and hit up Earl of Sandwich with less walking!

During the first few hours, the DtD entrance is limited to Disney owned Hotel Guests, anyone can board at Tomorrowland though.

Once the morning rush is over, then the Monorail is open to all the majority of the time, but if the backup gets too long(such as only one train is running), they have switched back to Disney Hotel Guests only. Same with the Tomorrowland Station, especially in the evening hours

Thanks, that is important info! :)

On really busy days, like NYE or the 60th kickoff, the monorail was for hotel guests all day. You could always ask in TL before boarding, but once you're at the station, it's faster to go one way, even if you end up walking back.

The only reason we wouldn't want to get too stuck walking back is that we'd be leaving our double stroller in tomorrowland. The almost-3-year-old is pretty slow, but very heavy for carrying, even on one of our backs!

We found it to be a huge shortcut when our destination was EOS. And we did that a number of times on our recent trip. :)

But I guess that depends on where you start from. If we were in Fantasyland or Tomorrowland it was an easy decision. It dumps you out right across from EOS.

Also depends on your wait time to board. I love monorail and ride it every time I am at Disneyland.

How early in the morning could an offsite guest plan on entering DTD and getting a monorail into the park? We tend to travel at busy times (ie. school breaks).

Only works if you're closeby in DL.

Exactly.

It depends, when the line dies down or around 11 AM, but there is no real set time, they open it up if there is little or no wait (more than 1 train) A busier day will make it later.

If we are planning on going during a slower time in March, do you think that they will still limit access to Disney Hotel guests in the morning? Also, how far is the DTD monorail from the Mickey and Friends drop off?

Yes, every morning at opening until around 2 hours is Disney Hotel Guests only.

As for location, you have to take the walk from the structure to the ESPN Zone, and then a short walk to the entrance. About a half mile from the bottom of the escalators at Mickey & Friends.

I recommend riding it early. As others have posted, it's a nice way to get a bird's-eye view of the park. Also, ride in the front or back car if possible. Better view.
