Monorail Question

After much discussion (I wanted to spend this day AT Disneyland, but it was hard to convince everyone to spend 5 DAYS there), we decided that on our arrival day we'll go to the beach, then come back to check into the HoJo and walk around DTD (with dinner at Ralph Brennan's). My question is that this first day I would LOVE to ride the monorail. I know it picks up/drops off at DTD and goes around the resorts, CA, and DL. My question is do they check park tickets (we will not have them) if we got on and off the monorail at DTD and made a round trip ride. I'm thinking they do, but if they don't that would be an awesome beginning to an awesome trip. :thumbsup2

Hi there,

The monorail is an attraction at DL, and so you would need a park ticket before boarding it. (sorry)

I thought so (I've been to DL many times), but I thought that if they were dropping off at DTD...you know, wishful thinking.

Thanks.

There are two drop-off points for the monorail at Disneyland, Tomorrowland and Downtown Disney. You can get on at Downtown Disney, but you must show a park ticket to get on there, even if you want to ride round-trip. By the same logic, you also must go through a bag check if you get on at Downtown Disney.

That makes sense--otherwise I'm sure everyone would ride it (without park tickets). To be honest, I haven't ridden it in years. When I went in 2006, the monorail was down for refurbishment and in 2001 we didn't ride it. Before that, DTD and CA didn't even exist.

Before that the monorail used to stop at the Disneyland Hotel. :) I remember using it for early entry back in '95 when we stayed there.

It made more sense at that time to use the monorail because the street blocked the entrance to the park, and you could either get to Disneyland from the hotel by driving, the tram, or the monorail.
