Can anyone tell me what the monorail starter play set is going for theses day we are giving each kid there own spending money and I want to make sure he has enough to cover it and a few other things.TIA

I have the one where you set up the track and then the monorail moves around it either forward or backwards and talks and stuff. It was $70.

I purchased the Monorail set, extra characters, the Contemporary and the EPCOT Spaceship earth seat last Christmas for my son online at the Disney Store. I did it when they were promoting free shipping. The price is the same as it was in the park (we had been in Sept) and with free shipping there wasn't any additional cost.

My son liked it when we were at Disney but the thought of lugging it on the plane with everything else and all the restrictions I found it easier to order it online. It was around $70 for the basic monorail set that does come with characters. If I were you I would check to see if Disney Store is still selling it online (check theme park section) and you will get the prices.

The best thing about the monorail set is it includes the announcements that are made on the monorail by the same voice...it makes me feel like I'm at Disney for the moment I hear it.

The monorail playset is a great toy! There are a few of us who take this toy very seriously! ;)

The Disney Monorail is $72 plus tax, if memory serves in both cities, Anaheim is 10%, Kissimmee, 8%. One poster was mistaken, they all come with the figs, you get 8. You can buy additional 10 packs for $9. If you have a premium AP it's awesome, like $60. Now, that said, you can find them on Ebay daily, some more, some less depending on stripe color. Most "diehard" collectors prefer the "old-school" version which doesn't have the removable doors and roofs, here's why: It's a cute idea but the doors came with no hinges, they're snap-ons and they were badly designed, these doors fall off when you breathe on them, worse, they're very small so they are easily lost and very easy for a toddler to ingest, as are the figs. Small kids will lose doors, take it to the bank (just look at how many are sold on Ebay missing doors), there is a seller who offers replacements but you must know if it's a left or right hinge, who wants to spend 5 bucks every time you lose one? Oh, and the figs were a cute idea too, doesn't work. You can't see them and they fall on the Mono floor as soon as you launch it anyway. Lastly, the older ones are collectible, we covet the Purple Stripe, Gold Stripe and others, this hobby originally was a big flop. Disney was selling the rides like Astro, Dumbo, Zephyr etc at the outlet for just $10, they didn't sell. Today they can go as high as $250 depending on the ride. There is also a seller on Ebay who sells them with custom high speed motors, these are dismally slow, and makes them go 3 times faster. Very cool, you can get one for as little as $100, they also offer to "retro" ones you already own if you mail the engine car, there are videos on Youtube, just look under "Disney Custom Monorail (I'd post the link but I don't know if it's permitted here). Careful, it's an addictive hobby and will take over a room in your house while you make your own mini magic kingdom. If you need any help, ask away, I've published a guide for beginners and written another for "seasoned" hobbyists I'm getting around to posting. One more thing (sorry you asked yet?) Disney comes out with a new stripe around Nov every year, but this year they're doing a pre-release at the Convention (surely a limited supply like in 2002) It is the new Monorail, the Mark VII and has a remote. Probably still won't sell publicly till late fall/early winter. Happy Monorailing!

I don't want to hijack this thread, but there seem to be some experts here. We bought a monorail about 3 years ago and after about 6 months the audio stopped working. I replaced the batteries but I am wondering if there is another place that I don't see for a battery just for the audio? Could the experts direct me to another thread if there is one about this sort of thing? We really miss the announcements.
TIA,
Jill

All the Disney monorails I have seen (and I have taken more than a few apart) use the 2 AA batteries for everything. There are no other batteries in the monorail.
If the monorail runs but still has no sound there could be a cold solder joint on the circuit board, the workmanship on the monorails is not real good.

Drat! And thanks for the response. Any way to get the circuit board out easily and repair? Or, once broken, always broken?

Just be careful with the toy if you purchase it. The doors come off VERY easily, you can't see the characters once you place them inside and the batteries run out pretty quickly. Our kids were a few years younger when we got ours, so maybe that contributed to it's demise :) It's great around the Christmas tree, though!
