Was the monorail at DLR running today? Not sure if they would shut it down too until they figure out what went wrong in WDW. I feel so bad for the poor young man's family. :sad1:

I'm pretty sure that the accident at WDW would not affect the monorail at DLR.

We rode the monorail into the park this morning at 9:00. I know I saw it running a little later on in the morning.

I was thinking that at DLR they only run one at a time, is that right? If so, they wouldn't need to worry about what caused the two to collide. We usually never ride it, but since our nieces will be with us next week we figured we would for them.

No usually they run 2, but from the reports it appears that the monorail accident was a freak accident. I know that the DLR monorail trains are very much different than the ones at WDW, but I'm not sure how similar the complete systems are.

They do run 2 at DL, but they usually run opposite each other and leave the stations around the same time....so, if the blue one is in TL the orange one will be in DTD and they at about the same time. In peak season they may run more but it's usually only 2 that we see out.

does anyone have any new info on what happened? That is such a strange accident to have happen...

I think the short story is that the control center OKed one train to enter while another while still on the tracks.

supposively, when in station, the purple monorail was pulling back to monorail storage yard. As he started pulling backwards "thinking" the track is changed, he left the safety system off because he is moving to storage yard. Not knowing there is another monorail runnin into the station, the monorail went backwards and without warning crashed into the other monorail.

There are many things that can be prevented such as a better control system. Human error is also the case as the purple monorail should have looked in the rear view mirrors(there are 3 of them btw).

BUT its not entirely his fault. If you see a monorail backing up, you would like back up to, but the Pink Monorail operator didnt.

Another thing is a lot of the CMs are running 12 hour shifts. its like driving for 12 hours. very tiresome. In a way, CMs have to be on alert. in an article i read, the Disney managers encourage getting around fast to shuttle all guest back, which means speeeeeeding.

Still, i will still put my trust in the monorail system... this is the first accident in 38 years for Disney's monorail system. I put my trust in it more than an airplane or car. :)

Sad i know, Disney has lost a CM and its a sad day for all of us working at Disney.
Disney is best known for safety for CMs and guest. Disney has put soo much effort into safety, its not even funny. For this to happen, really really shocked the Disney workforce.

as for Disneyland Monorail, it is highly unlikely since monorails leave at the same time with commands from radios... Disneyland monorail wont come close.

You switched up pink and purple, but other than that, it's the right idea.

Hey thanks for that article. It was very informative. Sad situation. I wonder what happened and why someone thought they had thrown the switch when indeed they had not. They must be in trouble.
