Monorail not running?

We will be there in three weeks and are staying at BLT (our home resort). DH came home the other day and said he had been talking to a co-worker who just got back from staying at the Contemporary. SHE reported that she was really upset because the monorail was only running "late at night" and on weekends.

I told DH that couldn't possibly be true as I hadn't seen anything on here recently about it (though I'm not on here all the time and could have missed it!) or heard anything about it in podcasts.

Is this true? How long will this be going on for? It's not like we're going to change the reservation at this point and we spend most of our time in MK (hence our home resort choice!), but really, I'm sad that someone spent the $$ to stay at the Contemporary and have that happen to them. DH reported that she wasn't informed of it before they arrived.

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

True. The resort and express lines are closed from 11:30am - 7:00pm on weekdays until the end of March.

Well... damnit. Okay. Guess I'll have to go put on a sheepish face and tell hubby I was wrong, as I had vehemently denied it.

Shhh!!! This conversation never happened... lol.

There have been many threads about it since at least last fall! LOL

"Only running late at night" isn't true, so I would take that road!

We traveled back and forth from the Polynesian to the MK several times this past month during non-operating monorail times. I took the boat which at times was efficient. However, one time I was trying to leave around 4:30pm and the line for the boat was 1 hour per the CM estimate! I took the big boat to the TTC and walked to the Poly instead. I asked the CM why they didn't plan better for this by using more or bigger boats and she just said, they didn't anticipate the crowds and that I should take a bus.

If it makes you feel better OP, BLT is arguably the least impacted by the monorail closure. Walking to MK is faster than the monorail since you have to walk to CR, wait for one and go all the way around the loop. Walking back is slightly slower than the monorail, but hey, better than waiting for a Poly/GF bus or boat!

It is a pain when it comes to Epcot (the Epcot monorail still runs, but you need to bus between CR and TTC), but we worked around that by leaving for Epcot before 1130 and not taking a midday break, and scheduling dinners either at Epcot or a non-monorail resort, and then returning to BLT after 7.

We were the most inconvenienced when trying to get to another monorail resort when the monorail wasn't running. My advice is to avoid this as much as you possibly can. Try and do any monorail resort dining during earlier breakfast hours, later dinner hours, or on weekends. Much faster than walking over to MK and bussing/boating to the other 2 resorts. If you have to schedule those meals during closure hours, try and do it on DHS/AK days so you can just bus from there like you would have had to do anyways.
