DH and I haven't been to the world since 2007 and so much has changed. We have never stayed at the Poly before and since I can't seem to find a date open for the CR we ate looking at Poly. We wanted the ability to walk from the CR and not have to rely on any transportation.
After reading about the monorail from Poly, I am a bit confused. It mentions the "Resort Monorail and mentions "Express Monorail". What is the difference? Are their two??

It also states the monorail runs clockwise but then it states the "Resort Monorail, the Express Monorail" runs directly to the Magic Kingdom?? So does it go directly to MK??

Thank you

  • The Monorail station located just in front of the Grand Ceremonial House offers convenient access to the Resort Monorail, with clockwise service to the Grand Floridian - Magic Kingdom - Contemporary Report - Transportation & Ticket Center (TTC) - Polynesian loop.
  • Guests can also access the Resort Monorail, the Express Monorail (which goes directly to the Magic Kingdom), and the Epcot Monorail from the Transportation & Ticket Center (TTC), which is a +/- 10 minute walk from the Polynesian.

The Express Monorail goes directly from the Transportation and Ticket Center to the Magic Kingdom, and back. It does not stop at the resorts.
The Resort Monorail goes from the Magic Kingdom to the Contemporary, TTC, Polynesian, Grand Floridian (in that order) and back to the Magic Kingdom.

Ok. I didn't realize there was an Express Monorail. Just getting back after many long years.
So, would we walk to the TTC to get to the Express Monorail?

Yes. It's a very easy walk from Poly.

You also want to walk to the TTC for the Epcot monorail because taking the resort monorail all the way around and transferring is slooooow.

If you are actually staying at the Polynesian, I think it's going to much more convenient to use the resort monorail to get to the Magic Kingdom. The express monorail is used by those parking in the MK lots, and so it's going to be much busier by comparison.

Or, you can use the boat transportation to MK too.

Awesome!!!! I have been trying so hard to get a reservation at CR so we could walk to MK, so now Poly has become a second option. We really do not care for Grand Floridian so I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what we would do.

To be sure you’re aware - there’s a walking path from Grand Floridian to the MK now:). It’s a bit farther than the one from CR, but it’s a beautiful path!

eta - just saw the above :). Never mind!!

The Polynesian monorail stop was closed for reconstruction last year, so you might also be reading other older information from around that time. During the Polynesian construction, you had to walk to the TTC to get the monorail to MK. I like to look at it as there are TWO monorail loops. The outer loop takes people between MK & TTC with no other stops. The inner loop stop at the 3 monorail resorts, MK and TTC. Both loops only run in a clockwise direction.

Forgive me for being that poster, but just wanted to chime in briefly on that last part - they run in opposite directions. The Resort Monorail runs clockwise, the Express Monorail runs counter-clockwise.

You can walk from the Poly, though GF, to the new walking path to MK. It'll be longer than walking from CR but I've heard it's a nice walk. Someone will chime in -- maybe 20 minutes?

I did this about 2 weeks ago and sounds about right. It's a lovely walk!

There was one spot over at GF after going past the main entrance where stopped to ask a CM for directions since it looked like it would bring me to a backstage area, but once I walked up to that part, it would have been a bit clearer, the signage throughout the path was fairly well marked.

As others have said, the express route goes back and forth between MK and TTC. That's it. The Resort route goes to, as the name suggests, all the resorts.

From the Poly, it makes the most sense to just take the resort loop since you only have 1 stop. You could walk to TTC and then get on the express, but the TTC was really hectic last time I was there.

You can also take a boat from Poly. I've never done this, but it sounds fun. Since you are at a deluxe (and paying the price!) you will have plenty of options.

We've taken the boat several times, and it's much nicer than the monorail. The route is triangular; the same boat stops at Grand Floridian, Poly, and MK (sorry, I don't remember the order; I think it changes from time to time).
