Monorail Fire

In my opinion, the monorails are a lot like the space shuttles. They were built in the 70's with limited upgrades over the 30+ years (not to mention duct tape issues...lol look at pictures of the inside of a shuttle) and should be scrapped and new cars introduced. Disney makes enough money by raising prices and the monorails are one of the most used transportation close to the buses.

No the mark 8 was introduced in the 90's made by the same company that made the trams in the Atlanta airport.

sorry, my bad, They look so old and dirty I thought they might be original. Still I think time for an upgrade

Due to monorail problems with Epcot on Wednesday - the Magic Kingdom extended hours - 1 additional hour. Which was great since SO many people left after the parade and fireworks.

Also heard someone died at Port Orleans due to health problems on Wed.

I didn't check this time, but it looked like they are no longer letting people RIDE UP FRONT of the Monorail since the June Epcot Monorial death.

IS that the case?

Also why is it that the monorails have those stupid balloons blocking your view of what's outside?

I love how the headline read: Walt Disney World Monorail Shut Down Due to Fire.

Yet no fire or even flames were mentioned in the article. Ah......journalistic sensationalism at its finest!

I don't recall ever being on a monorail car that looked old and dirty. I have always been impressed with how well things are kept up. My kids love to take a boat to the MK just to ride the monorail to EPCOT even if we don't get off at EPCOT, but just ride back to our starting point.

We asked if we could ride up front two weeks ago and they said No. Only the driver is allowed up front. Bummer. It was always special.

Last November we asked if we could ride up front and they said Yes. We pulled along the young Japanese couple that was standing beside us... they didn't speak English... and you could tell by the smiles on their faces they were really enjoying themselves.

The fatal monorail accident was actually JULY 5th. It is because of that accident that guests are no longer allowed to ride up front. We saw the "aftermath" in the TTC the next day.
Then, we were there again for a couple months (Aug. & Sep.) and they (Dis) seem to be having major transportation issues. While we there that time, the Monorail system shut down twice and the ENTIRE bus system was shut down for 2.5 hours (suspected "un -patriotic" activity.)

My sister just got back last night from the 'world', and she said the CMs were totally gracious and helpful, and in light of the shut down monorail, they kept MK open later, and immediately added boats, and buses. She said no one seemed immediately upset by any of it, and things moved very smoothly.

Just one families perspective, but worth noting, IMO

Big difference between a fire and smoke from a mechanical problem such as a short circuit. Machines malfunction all the time no matter where in the world you are, sounds to me like a lot being made out of nothing.
