So my DD just relapsed. I’m an ICU nurse so I know her ride limitations. We are scheduled to arrive in WDW 7/16. I’ve switched any fast passes for evemings To avoid walking the parks in the hot sun. I will let her sleep until whenever and enjoy the resort pools/AC during the heat of the day. Only venturing into the parks after 4:00pm.

Do you think it is overkill to bring a wheelchair for fatigue?

No, I don’t think it is (also a nurse).
If you have it, she can use it as much or as little as needed.

If she’s feeling good and wants to walk for a while, you can park it with the strollers and do the attractions in the area without using it in line.
Then, move it or have her ride it to the next area.

Almost every attraction is wheelchair accessible to the point of boarding, if she does need it in lines.

You could rent in each park, but those can’t be taken out of the park.
Having one with you would be helpful for getting from the park to bus/car and back to your room in case she crumps.

If she’s willing I definitely think it’s worth it. I had that at about age 19/20ish and when I first got sick the fatigue was intense (I had to sit in the shower, sit down after standing long enough to brush my teeth, etc). It took months to be able to do a normal day and Disney is not a normal day. The best I found was pacing myself. If you can convince her to take it slow by using the wheelchair then she’ll likely pull up better the next day rather than overdoing it one day and sleeping all the following day.

If you all are flying, don't forget that some airports can have quite a hike to the gates - not to mention lines at TSA to stand in. (And that is especially true of MCO for the return trip home!)

Mobility equipment - wheelchairs included - flies for free on all domestic airlines in the US, so don't hesitate to bring a chair from home if you have access to one.

The only kind of chair that is generally not recommended for WDW is a "transport" chair (the kind with the 4 small wheels, and typically a thin, sling seat) because they are very uncomfortable to sit in after while, and more difficult to push, given that you will be walking/pushing (on average) between 3 & 10 miles *per day*.

No I think a wheelchair is a great idea or her

Also just want to say that I am sorry this happened right before your vacation

Thanks everyone. Ordered a chair from Amazon. Drive blue streak. Gets decent reviews. She’s very willing. She was in a chair when she was 11 and had great FOTL experience. I managed her expectations due to MANY more accessible lines. She just laughed. So she’s willing and I think it will make the trip much easier for her.

I agree airports are huge and we are flying out of EWR. I’ve rented a car for the moment but was able to snag Boardwalk Villas so I might lose the car. Still mulling it over.

Thanks again!

Just to let you know there are 5( I might have missed one or two) rides at Disney world with alternate entrance they are

MK
JC
BTMRR you will get a return time and go in the exi
IASW
space ship earth most of the time they just let you in the exit

And space mountain you go in the FP line. So there is not much FOTL you get anymore. And they do not let you right in but will give you a time to come back.

Oh and the tea cup you do the exit for
