Well look slike the PC has reached the end of its natural life so it will be replaced. Howvere not sure about monitors, I currently use a CRT Mitsubishi Diamond Plus 19in which still seems to work well.

Do you think there is any merit in buying a LCD monitor to replace the CRT? If so what shuld I look for in a new monitor

I bought a new HP computer 2 months ago. With it I also got a new monitor. I was going to go with one of the Acer's 20" models, then I saw the HP w2207h 22" in the store. Great picture. To me it looked a whole heck of a lot better than any of the others in my price range. Cost me about $90 more than what I was going to originally spend, but this monitor is the wicked pissah! It has a regular imput and an HDMI imput.

also watch out for monitors with Dell's proprietary input.
